Best of Haute Couture Spring 2011

Runway Review: Paris Couture Fashion Week Givenchy, Bouchra Jarra, Valentino I don't if it's because of the mass appeal of Juicy Couture or simply the way its meaning evolves as it filters into mainstream vernacular, but "haute couture" although commonly perceived as a custom item of clothing of any sort or price, in actuality is a term protected by law and defined by the Chambre de commerce et d'industrie de Paris with very specific rights. Haute couture is a luxury allowed to a privileged few. Naveed Hussain, brings you his thoughts on the Spring 2011 Best of Haute Couture. -- S.H. A look at the Spring 2011 Haute Couture Paris shows only leads one to further reevaluate the basic relevance

Men’s Style- Best of Menswear Fall 2011 Runway, The Avant Gardes

Runway Review: Dries Van Noten, Jil Sander, Alexander McQueen, Marni, Miharayasuhiro When it comes to men's style, there are two schools on the runway- the classics and the risk takers. We've shown you some of my favorite mens fashion shows from Europe from John Varvatos (the personal favorite for my hubby) , Louis Vuitton, Burberry Prorsum, Emporio Armani, Giorgio Armani, and even some super funk by way of Lady Gaga at Mugler. Then, there are the fashion risk takers. The men's fashion that has a bit more edge than the average guy can pull off, but plenty of style for those up to taking the chance! Naveed Hussain curates his favorite menswear fall 2011 collection from the catwalks of Paris

Best of Resort Fashion- A Season Ahead, Just In Time

Resort runways are often a precursor to what's in store for Spring. Let's consider... A girl could lose her head. Or at least spin it around so many times that it will catapult her neck and land in a frisson of colliding fashion seasons that all ineditably fall into one: What looks right on YOU now! Spring is shown in late summer (at least by the scroching temps merely a week before NYFW). Fall in early winter. Then, there's resort... resort? You have yet to think about autumn leaves! In this insane goggle-muggle where fashion is shown in the time frame of when retailers need to place their orders for the following season and magazines need to pull for their

Red Carpet Hairstyles- Emmy’s Up Do Makes Up For Fashion Downers

Anna Paquin wearing Alexander McQueen & uber glamourous updo hairstyle stole the show! Sorry, we'd be lying to say that the Emmy's was a mega fashion extravaganza. A few minutes post event and we cannnot remember who wore what. With one very gorgeous exception... Heidi Klum with her updo at the Emmy's Anna Pacquin in a fantastical, yet chic, Alexander McQueen black gown with a heavily embellished gold bodice stole the show hands down. To be fair, there were a few other dresses that probably looked lovely in person but looked either odd or dull on television. Ironically, it is a TV awards show so one would think that the stylists were able to pull photogenic dresses?! There was a

Best of Haute Couture Fall 2010 – The Glamour, The Fantasy, The Allure

As we prepare for the Spring 11 Fashion Weeks, we reflect the unimaginable beauty of what was Haute Couture Fall 2010 Naveed Hussain has spent some time digesting the magnificence of all that is available for only a privileged few. Haute Couture has been a tireless subject of debate. While many like to continually point out it's weak sales across the board and diminishing relevance in society. Although that may be the case, wasn't it always? Isn't couture about that unattainable and highly elusive luxury item we all like to dream of having? Hasn't globalism made "luxury" too readily attainable? The nine designers who showed for Haute Couture Fall 2010 clearly understand the craft beautifully. However, there were four contributions

Hey Hipster Guys Mjolk Is A Men’s Style Line For You

Men's style gets a bit preppy and playfully boyish with all the right touches... Yes, yes, my morning giggle is from Naveed's description of the ubiquitous NYC "hipster" male with his studied unkempt look and style-by-numbers geek clique uniform. If that's you, please try something unexpected and shave once in a while, why don't you?! Have a read as a little style inspiration can take you a very long way. --S.H.

Frank Tell Fashion Show Fall 2010 NY Fashion Week

Runway Review: It's a wild and woolly ride on 3D knits that has a well-studied reserve and articulation Set amongst a Dan Flavin inspired assortment of neon lights, Frank Tell's recent presentation at Milk Studios was rife with a futuristic simplicity that was appropriately less urban warrior and definitively more wearable. Frank Tell Fall 2010 at New York Fashion Week >> More Fashion Shows & Runway Reviews What's remarkable about Tell is the fact that he can work with essentially trendier elements, voluminous yetti knits, sarouel pants, grommets and leather minis, without ever seeming like an over-zealous downtown crowd pleaser or trend chaser, everything has a well-studied reserve and articulation. Here icey blue patch worked yetti knits, grommet edged suiting
