Golden Globes Fashion- Best Dressed Looks

Golden Globes fashion - 2016
Golden Globes fashion 2016 is rather uninteresting in a very good way. Honestly, (most) everyone looked chic and elegant. There was barely a misstep and the looks were clean and stunning. Kinda sorta like the way we want to look. Nothing fussy. Nothing overdone. Mostly streamlined and well-edited.  The secret to a great look is to keep it simple + keep it striking. The overall theme for Golden Globes fashion this year were column dresses in clear colors, which although gorgeous, are not so memorable the next day. Golden Globe Fashion Winners that had that something extra (pictured above)... It's hard to debate that Jennifer Lawrence stole the fashion show in her cutout (another fashion theme) red column from Dior and

Your Personal Style In A Time of Life Transitions

Top 3 ways to know when to transition your style as you move along in your life It's been a heady transformative week at my house for sure. My son received early acceptance to his first choice college! I'm beyond thrilled that his hard work paid off and he will have the opportunity to have the advanced education so that my crazy talented kid can live out his dream of becoming a feature filmmaker. The absolute joy is palatable as not only is his major highly competitive but it is also the university where my father proudly graduated so emotions are going full circle. Okay, I have to also admit that as a family, we are also rather relieved that

The Iconic Style of Jacqueline de Ribes: The Art of Style at The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Growing up I was always inspired by the style of Jacqueline de Ribes. I would tear through the society pages in my mother's Women's Wear Daily and amidst all the socialites photographed at charity functions and black tie events, one woman would grab my attention like no other. Countess Jacqueline de Ribes with her regal profile, long neck and volumes of dark hair, model slim figure and unmeasurable poise was a beacon of authentic style... a woman who knew how to make the most of what she's got in the truest form of iconic style. The Costume Institute is at The Metropolitan Museum of Art is honoring her style in the special Jacqueline de Ribes: The Art of Style costume exhibition

Lace Tights, Thank You Chanel!

Thank you Karl Lagerfeld for inspiring me to want to spice up my hosiery drawer with lace tights again! Lace stockings have been looking "off" for a few years. Add just a few sartorial twists and they look so right again. Mostly due to the styling at the Chanel Paris In Rome Show at Cinnecitta Studios where the models wore mules along with lace tights. "The mule... It's a typical Chanel shoe, open behind, but we had never done it. With a lace stocking, it's something which, in people's minds, is very Paris." Karl Lagerfeld Trying mules with tights can be a bit tricky, both in styling and in being slippery to wear with an open back shoe (these remind me of my Nicholas Kirkwood pair, so

My 5 steps for getting through holiday madness with ease

Best Of The Holidays... I thought it would be a good time for a little (life)style motivation.    A time to take ten and nurture ourselves when it seems like there isn't a slot left on the calendar to even think about it. The end of the year is usually a jam-packed time around here, as it is, I am sure for most of you. Sometimes, I feel like one of my fancy dressed lady ornaments hanging on my tree. The ones right next to the kooky creatures, western wildlife and bejeweled poodles. You see, we celebrate both Chanukah and Christmas, my son's birthday falls in this month, as well as our wedding anniversary, and we leave NYC for our

Everyday Chic: Chanel styling and makeup you can try on your own!

I just love everything about this everyday chic look from Chanel in Vogue! The article is about Chanel’s global creative makeup and color designer Lucia Pica, pictured in a Chanel jacket, Margaret Howell scarf, and photographed by Daniel Jackson, for Vogue, September 2015. Pica's strong yet casual look is something that you easily master on your own. There's nothing easier to style the right white T-shirt. Top it with your favorite good jacket, add the flirty neckerchief and suddenly your otherwise better than basic jeans are polished and statement making. Now, of course, that bold 90s inspired smoldering dark lipstick adds the edge. Try it! MORE: Quick Tips

Color of the Year- Rose Quartz and Serenity for 2016

Pantone announced its color of the year and for 2016, it's all about Rose Quartz and Serenity. The colors are all about calm and mindfulness as opposed to the richer Marsala, last year's color of the year. So, pack up your brights, the trend colors are all about muted pales for next year! Or, reworking pales you already have or can find on the sale rack, like the outfit pictured right. MORE: Posts about Color Watch the Pantone inspiration video below and you'll see the origin of this softer color trend. https://www.youtube.com/embed/AAJ1vPe4w2c   As consumers seek mindfulness and well-being as an antidote to modern day stresses, welcoming colors that psychologically fulfill our yearning for reassurance and security are becoming more

Easy Thanksgiving Holiday Recipes… because who wants to waste time in the kitchen?!

Whats' cooking at my house! Smells so good that I thought I'd share my Thanksgiving recipes with you  with some behind-the-scenes photos while I'm cooking!   For me, style is a lot like cooking.  You start with the best ingredients and the rest is easy. That's a main premise in the C'est Chic Crash Course- it's not about being precise, it's about having the know-how to instinctively get it together.  I'm not a fan of the typical turkey dinner with lot's of heavy food and sugar. So, here's my twist:Roasted Herb Turkey Breast-Made with what's in the house herbs mostly fresh, some dried. Thyme, Sage Rosemary, chopped garlic, dried Greek oregano, tri-color pepper, Himalayan sea salt, 2 kinds of parsley, cilantro,

Personal Branding 101: What about those phonies?

Style + Success: Let's get real for a moment, please... After all, it's about you. So let's get into personal branding 101. Have you ever dreamingly followed an online lifestyle guru, marketing coach or business mentor who appears to have both a "perfect" life and an enviable thriving business? She surely must have the magic touch from the stream of manufactured social media and personal branding images on her web site. Perfect-istas are usually recognizable by their soft focus social media photos of them decadently biting a cupcake (if they're American), or a macaroon (if they're wannabe French). Perfectly positioned next to the sinful sugary treat is a well-lit green smoothie waiting to be consumed from a mason jar. A gastronomic oxymoron of

This photo is how long I have been in the Mompreneur business! In mom terms, FocusOnStyle has been online from onesies to 6'4"!  Just think that when the docs said that my newborn son was in the 95th percentile for height, we didn't believe them. I'm just starting to toy with Periscope (tips to follow me at the end), and although this replay is not looking as profesh as I would like, it does have the raw authentic realness that livestreaming
