Best of Red Carpet Fashion- Screen Actor’s Guild Awards

Zoe Saldana in Givenchy Haute Couture by Riccardo Tisci

Another Sunday, another awards show.

The Screen Actor’s Guide Awards is a bit different from the rest because attending actors don’t try to ridiculously outdo on another as with the Oscars, or add the extra zing as with the Golden Globes.

The SAG Awards is as low-key as a red carpet can get, and with that comes some of the most elegant, prettiest dresses that don’t ‘wear’ the wearer… in other words, more class, less schmaltz.

MORE: Red Carpet

We’ve highlighted some of the best dressed from last night’s awards as an inspiration board of trends for you to think about the next time you REALLY need to go formal. This isn’t about fantasy, or novelty, but  about pretty, chic dresses with actresses looking modern, classy, and simply divine, starting with our favorite Zoe Saldana in Givenchy Haute Couture by Riccardo Tisci, featured above.

White

Zoe Saldana, Tilda Swinton in Lanvin, Gretchen Mol in L’Wren Scott, and Linda Gray radiate in the spare simplicity of a well-cut white dress that looks anything but bridal.

American Beauty Rose

The vibrant fuchsia tinged pink of an American Beauty rose is a color that Yves Saint Laurent championed. Flattering to most skin tones and always evoking glamor, as here with Sofia Vergara in Marchesa, Julie Bowen in Temperley London, and Mary Steenburgen.

 A touch of sheer

A simple draped touch of sheer makes for an elegant take on bare or to camouflage in strategic places. Sexy and classy on Ashlee Simpson in Jenny Packham, Glenn Close in Zac Posen, and Michelle Williams in Valentino.

Not very basic black

Timeless and chic with the right touch of evening drama, the perfection of a not so little black dress worked on Emma Stone in Alexander McQueen, Paz Vega, Jane Krakowski, and Angelina Jolie in Jenny Packham.

Flaunting tattoos

More than a girl with a dragon tattoo, it’s a star with enough body art to drive Jesse James wild, Angelina Jolie displayed her full monty of back and arm tatts and Kyra Sedgwick  wore a strategically cut Pucci gown to show off her new “family” tattoo. Thoughts???
