A few more big events to go before things peter down for summer and we are all getting rather tired here of looking at stacks of celebrity photos of stars wearing overdone dresses, even when the event is a fashion industry favorite.

There’s that wonderful adage about not wearing clothes that wear you and that’s what we want to concentrate on as we review the prettiest, we think, looks from last night’s red carpet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala in New York.

Sharon’s personal favorite for the night is Gwen Stefani wearing a dress of her own design that is edgy yet quite stunning and simple, pictured left.
