Isaac Mizrahi- Spring 11 Fashion Show, Enough about Trends, Lets be Pretty

Runway Review: When looking pretty speaks volume

Every once in a while we need to cleanse our palette of trends and unneccessary froufrou and get back down to what a woman really wants to be when she gets dressed. For most of us over the age of 20ish, it’s simply to look pretty in a way without unneccessary artifice or pretention.

Pretty doesn’t mean boring or dated. It means that you are in control of your look and want ot look stunning for yourself in a timeless and ageless way in clothing that is designed with YOU the woman in mind.

The Isaac Mizrahi spring 2011 collection called "IM Xerox" delivered just that- look after look of simply stunning dresses that don’t wear the wearer but let her shine!

Isaac Mizrahi: One of my favorite pieces is this simple chic, formfitting black sequin dress with stone work that creases in size as it approaches the hem.

My favorite being the short black beaded dress, pictured right.

What appears in a photograph to be rather simple LBD, on the runway, in real life is a magnificinetly constructed garment with just the right amount of jet glimmer stones that increase in size as they aproach the perfectly suited knee-length hemline. It’s a dress that will surely become a go-to piece in your closet for seasons to come and will always look right on the money.

And on the money is where Mizrahi hits his mark.

These are clothes whose details shine in real life and are suited for real occassions; not just fodder for the red carpet. And if you look closely, there is still plenty of Mizrahi whimsy thrown in from the "Xerox" net overlays or his quirky take on a Peter Pan collar.

Fashion doesn’t or shouldn’t stop at the time when a woman is too long in the tooth for silly trends. She needs style and so many designers play to the super young customer and forget who actually buys clothing on the designer floor. Whether she be 30 or 60, there is always room in her closet for more items that she will want to wear again and again and maintain their modernity. There’s plenty of that in the Spring Isaac Mizrahi collection.
