Fashion Advice- How to Find A Stylish Swimsuit Cover Up

It can be tricky to find a swim suit cover up, but it doesn't have to be with these style tips... There seems to be two schools of thought on swimsuit cover-ups: the sheer and sexy or the short-shorts and terry. So what's a chic beach babe to do when she feels that running around in a one-off negligee or a kiddy romper is just too-too to suit her style needs? Well, go crazy. No, no, that's why I'm here. I don't know about you, but unless I'm camped out poolside at a luxury resort, the idea of prancing about in a sheer beach cover-up seems rather ridiculous to me, if not a bit risqué if you drive to the

Naeem Khan top at NeimanMarcus.com I am of Indian origin and live in London. I am going to the premiere of a Hindi movie at the London Indian Film Festival. I am just wondering if I should wear something formal like a black dress or casual like a pair of jeans and a nice top to go with. Thanks for your help -- M.G. via fashion advice When in doubt about what to wear for any occasion, it is always best to ask someone in the know who is either part of the event or a guest. As I'm not familiar with what is usually de riguour fashion at the London Indian Film Festival, I did the next best thing

Stylist Advice- How to wear an unstructured maxi skirt

How should I wear this Pins and Needles Chiffon Maxi Skirt from Urban Outfitters? I love it, but I don't know what top would go well with it...? -- A.L. via fashion advice Well, first off, I have to admit that chiffon, or any unstructured, maxi skirt is pretty darn tricky to pull off without looking like you're wearing a sack. There's an 80's unstructured retro vibe, which is only fresh if you have not lived through the 80's and seen photos of yourself and friends in droopy, saggy clothes. Or, just look at all the girls on the street today trasping around in what looks like a milkmaid's nightgown rather than a maxi dress. A maxi can be a

Wide Leg Jeans Tips- How to Wear the Pants Trend

The secret to pulling off this super hot fashion trend is more than just the fit! We certainly all have plenty of skinny jeans in our closets, and I am assuming that you've gotten the memo that they look the most modern these days when paired with a ladylike pump or rolled at the hem with flats. So enough about that. Let's go all the way to other side. Citizens of Humanity - Hutton High Rise Wide Leg Jeans It may be the inner 70's child in me, but I must admit, I always have a special place for wide leg pants and platform shoes. When worn right, the look is crisp, lean and iconic. Wide leg jeans have been

Robert Clergerie 'Arco' Espadrille at Nordstrom
How to find a flattering shoe with a bit of 'lift' when you are a flats devotee. Hey Sharon-- love your piece on the best platform shoes of the season. I, however, am a chronic flat-wearer; the height of my footwear varies only if I wear thick socks with my Adidas. Which are the best (ie easiest) platform pairs to wear that won't send me to my local podiatrist ... know any good ones?!- (New York, NY via e-mail) You funny lady, sounds like you're digging for hubby's digits. Yes, to the rest of you, my husband is a foot doctor, however that has never made a noticeable style difference in the hundreds of shoes that occupy my closet.

Leopard doesn’t have to be tricky to wear.

What shoes to wear with a leopard dress?   I just bought this gorgeous leopard print dress and was curious about what kind of shoes to wear with it. The dress itself is on the shorter side (above the knee) but fits perfectly. I was thinking about wearing a pair of leopard print strappy sandals I found at Macy's with some sheer nude pantyhose. But perhaps leopard print shoes may be too much. What's your take??? Thanks! (Sioux Falls, South Dakota) Ah ha! Wearing more than one element of animal print at one time can take you from looking chic to looking like the crazy cat lady. Yes, it is possible to combine a wild kingdom of animal prints, mostly

In Style- turn essential elements on how to update khaki pants Dear Sharon: I am an elementary Guidance Counselor. I struggle between being comfortable working with small children and looking professional for meetings. I like wearing khakis, loafers and a shirt, sweater or blazer daily. I would like to wear khakis everyday with different tops. Is this look too boring or uniform like? Could you give me some guidelines and/or suggestions? -Koo Koo for Khaki (Pataskala/Columbus, Ohio)   Dear Koo Koo: Ms. Prettypredictible orders the exact same thing for lunch everyday. Senior style for forgoing pantyhose: Adjust your fashion sense for your age

Adjust your fashion sense for your age… Senior style for forgoing pantyhose Here's a spin on that proverbial chestnut: hose worn with open shoes. I'm old, and my legs show it. My old gams look much better in hose, obviously. Hose does for my legs what Ultima II does for my face! So, I know pantyhose worn with open shoes is a no-no, but I've seen old girls like me without hose, and it ain't pretty! Is there any advice you can offer? (Rochester, NY) Sweetie, you make me chuckle. Age certainly does bring wisdom in your case. You are smart enough to know that a good part of having style is the common sense that some fashion trends do

What is STYLE? Fashion and Romance, closer than you think

Is it the norm to have one style? Recently, I was dating this guy who made the comment, "you haven't found your style yet". I responded that my style is eclectic, meaning that I'm comfortable in a mini skirt, blue jeans, or a suit. I don't like being predictable in my attire nor do I want to be conservative all the time. Am I missing something here? Is it the norm to have one style? I obviously didn't understand the undertone of his statement, but he is not an expert in style. Help!!! Thanks for your time. (Pompano Beach) Hopefully you aren't missing this boob of a boyfriend. Thank the high priestess of all things fabulous that you had the

Black is Not Always Black… Problem Free Ways to Combine Shades of the Ultimate Neutral

Black is Not Always Black… Problem Free Ways to Combine Shades of the Ultimate Neutral Are there any guidelines on mixing and matching black separates? If they are not the same shade of black should you not wear them together? I feel that as long as they are not drastically different it is okay. I don't have a huge budget for clothes and I tend to gravitate towards simple black items. Is this a bad thing? (Birmingham, AL) This is an excellent question and a style point that is commonly ignored. Most people assume that black is black and technically defined as the absence of color, but it's not always that simple. It may have a greenish, purplish, or reddish
