Then, when the latest trends are thrown into the mix, the result can be confusing. High fashion magazines aren’t always entirely helpful. They don’t translate into the battlefield of life. So many of my design clients often ask me to incorporate fashion into their style makeovers. And, I say stay on trend and modern in both your home and wardrobe.
One of the hottest fashion trends is the return of black and white. Just take a look at the many fab options out there. And, the best part is that color blocked pieces are a trend that’s age-appropriate for everyone. Check out this Alice + Olivia Constance Striped Coat at Shopbop, pictured above, as an ageless option.
Yet, many ladies think it’s not easy to work with black and white when you are above a size 12… not true! Use color blocking to play with your proportions and create the illusion of perfect curves because there is black and white fashion for any age, any size.

For instance, if you’re a size 12, you can rock a small printed black and white shirt, or a dress belted at the slimmest point on your waist, drop the hem line to the knee, pair that with the new Spandex black tights, and add a silver metallic open-toed pump… voila -one hot lady!
For those ladies in the house that are a sexy size 22, a great trick is to keep all the black on the outer parts of the body. For instance, try large black knit stripes down the sides of a pencil skirt with a white center panel. Pair that with a short black and white chiffon printed top, a tuxedo jacket, black tights, and a low ankle boot in black suede. You will rock the room for sure!

Now for you girls with a pixie size 2, take a pair of pencil black leather pants, add a black and white plaid twin sweater set and a fierce pump with a bit of a S&M inspired chrome spike detail. Not only will you look tall, but oh so modern!
