STYLE YOUR SUCCESS, LIVE YOUR DREAM...

The FocusOnStyle Blog
Helping You + Your Business Get Out There!

Make it your business to live your dream…

I inadvertently started my blog during my infant son’s nap time back in 1999… before the term ‘blog’ was even popular.

Through it all, I believe…

Your style is your fingerprint in all that you do… it’s how you see the world + how the world perceives you.

The blog archives go back to the beginning and are updated regularly.  You’ll find 1,000’s of posts about modern business, branding, positioning, marketing, photos, fashion, style, beauty, lifestyle… and most importantly, how to do anything authentically. Enjoy!

Booking it: J. Alexander tells it like it is and the boy can talk... I know! Dear Diary: Reading "Follow the Model" by my old friend, assistant stylist / sidekick, former partner in bettering the crimes of fashion is just like sitting around and talking to Alex, ummm Miss J. Well, we've already gone through this,  he has as many names as he has fabulous steps. He is Alex to me as his real name is Alexander Jenkins but others also know him as Jay. Then there is J. Alexander from his modeling days and Miss J to those who know him from Americas Next Top Model. The book will explain... ôFollow the Modelö is a steady stream of consciousness. A long

YSL leather jacket from the the fall 2003 collection Photo archives via: Style.com Styling tips to make a 7-year old YSL Leather Jacket look modern I have an authentic vintage Yves Saint Laurent black leather jacket that I purchased around 2002 when I worked for the company. The blazer style leather jacket with shoulder pads was very expensive at the time and cost ?2k (over $3,100). Luckily, I was able to use my employee discount. Unfortunately, I have not worn it much since. With the return of the big shoulders this season, I think that I could I get away with wearing it... what do you think? What would you recommend wearing it with? Should I wear jeans and heels

Lady Gaga and Giorgio Armani Prive at the Grammy’s, a spectacular fashion collaboration

Lady Gaga dressed exclusively in Giorgio Armani Privé at the Grammy's When haute couture meets performance art, the result is out of this world - Photo GalleryRed carpet fashion takes an other worldly turn Lady Gaga is not exactly a simple dresser. I’ve never been absolutely convinced that she owned her look rather than borrowed references from the avant-garde: Leigh Bowery’s performance art masterpieces, Grace Jones’ graphic mark on individualism in collaboration with Jean-Paul Goude, the highly stylized and imaginative ensembles of style icon Anna Piaggi, and even the outlandish outfits of the Club Kids from the late 80’s posing through the night. Disorderly conduct: The new crystals put bling on its edge.

Glitz got roughed up and it looks fabulous When you are looking for a modern detail to update your look, think about a clustered blast of raw, haphazard crystals. The new bling has a gritty, offhanded elegance reminiscent of rock candy or shattered glass. What's modern is not the cheap trick sparkly bling many of us associate with pavé phone cases, cloyingly cute crystal encrusted novelty doodads, or glittering from a too tight T-shirt. Crystals now have an irregularity to them that looks fresh. SHOP: Swavorski Crystallized online “It's interesting, when I think of encrusted crystal, I think of Paris Hilton's Sidekick. It's a frosty crystal that has been so cheapened as it hit the mass market in a huge

It’s “Kell On Earth,” When Kelly Cutrone Puts the Real in Reality TV

The fashion publicist who takes no prisoners also has some words about the future of the Internet 'This is a hardcore show about hardcore chicks who are running a hardcore agency' ---Kelly Cutrone Being on a press conference call with Kelly Cutrone is a lot like being tossed in the center of a cyclone of information, it's a breathless whirlwind of wisdom, no-nonsense sidebars, on-topic free association, razor sharp quips, and provocative opinion. The call with Cutrone, the straight-talking founder of the fashion public relation's firm People's Revolution, and her two business partners, Robyn Berkley and Emily Bungert was to promote their new fashion reality show 'Kell On Earth,' which premieres on Bravo February 1st. Bruce Weber Short Film for YSL Menswear

Ain't Nothin' Like The Real Thing, a Bruce Weber Short Film for YSL Fall/Winter 2010-11 "If you don't want to be nude, wear a suit" is what Bruce Weber originally wanted to call his short film. Sometimes I feel as if I need to explain my references. I am sure there are souls who are not familiar with Bruce Weber's brillaint work. Presently, he is the the most commercially known for his Abercrombie & Fitch photographs. Back in the day, it was for his Calvin Klein Underwear ads. If you were a male model in the 80's and had a portrait by Bruce Weber in your portfolio, you instantly skyrocketed to having a certain covetable cache that made you the
