MY BLOG:

STYLE YOUR SUCCESS, LIVE YOUR DREAM...

The FocusOnStyle Blog
Helping You + Your Business Get Out There!

Make it your business to live your dream…

I inadvertently started my blog during my infant son’s nap time back in 1999… before the term ‘blog’ was even popular.

Through it all, I believe…

Your style is your fingerprint in all that you do… it’s how you see the world + how the world perceives you.

The blog archives go back to the beginning and are updated regularly.  You’ll find 1,000’s of posts about modern business, branding, positioning, marketing, photos, fashion, style, beauty, lifestyle… and most importantly, how to do anything authentically. Enjoy!

Carlos Miele

Share | Carlos Miele - Spring 209 Fashion Show Runway Photos Carlos Miele from the run of the show... This collection is a dance between nature and the female body. Carlos Miele's love for architecture, music as well as his core influences such as Brazilian landscape artist Roberto Burle Marx, led him to design his island hideaway in Florianapolis. The houses' garden and its natural diversity together with the designers' thoughts about morphology of nature inspired this collection. Click on each picture for an enlarged view.

Paris Fashion Week: Aganovich Spring / Summer 2010

London Meets Paris: The odd mannequins and use of sculpture surrounding them gave the showing of the collection another dimension somewhere in between art and fashion. The Aganovich Spring / Summer 2010 Collection was artfully shown at a contemporary gallery in the trendy Marais section of Paris. What I love about the collection is the thoughtfulness and intelligence that went into each garment. A mix of fabrics such as pique and linen, and linen and satin are so smart and wearable. Looking closely I could see how well tailored every piece was and how the draping flowed so seamlessly. The presentation using odd mannequins and use of sculpture surrounding them gave the showing of the collection another dimension somewhere in

Paris Fashion Week: Gareth Pugh Spring / Summer 2010

A cool mix of Star Wars meets goth with androgynous models whose faces were painted in pale gray and eyes lined in red Paris Fashion Week kicked off last week and I was delighted to see one of the hottest and most coveted spring summer 2010 shows from the designer Gareth Pugh. Gareth Pugh is a young, bold designer coming into his own who was a protege of the uber edgy Rick Owens, the American designer living in Paris . The show was a cool mix of Star Wars meets goth with androgynous models whose faces were painted in pale gray and eyes lined in red. >> Read our complete runway reviews The Cher- like feather head dresses and the

“I”ll Have What She’s Having: Mary J. Blige’s Little Black Dress”

Yes, simple chic can absolutely rock out when you know how to do it right, like Mary J. Blige. When you start with a wardrobe that has solid core basics in perfect shapes all you can do is build upon it. No fuss, no extremes, simply great pieces that always look elegant and can update in a snap. There is nothing more versatile and timeless than a black sweater dress in an always classic turtleneck. Sleeveless or long-sleeved, that’s your choice, but the flattering length is what works (hint: it is not a mini) for seasons to come. I hate to use the phrase “investment dressing,” but this type of essential dress really pays off in style.   >> Watch

Swine Flu, What to Do – Ask Dr. Frank Lipman

The Doctor is in. Tips to help stave off the H1N1 swine flu from Dr. Frank Lipman... Summer is over and the question I am being asked most frequently in my practice is, “what do I do about Swine flu?” My patients are wondering whether or not they should get vaccinated and the simple answer I give most of the time is ..NO! From what you may have read, you might think that the swine flu vaccine is the answer to swine flu. Unfortunately this is not true and until we know that the vaccine is safe, I cannot in good conscience recommend it to most of my patients. From the outset, let me say, I am not anti all

Forever 21 Hair Accessories Channel Madonna, sort of?

Souped up hair ornaments at rock bottom prices Back in May, Madonna wore a Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton number with a funky little headpiece to the "The Model as Muse: Embodying Fashion" Costume Institute Gala at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. The blogosphere tongues were wagging. They called Mama Madonna’s headdress a pair of bunny ears, the worst outfit they ever saw, and lots of yadayada trash talk for an otherwise slow news day. I thought it was creative genius. ?In that crowd of every best-dressed supermodel and ingénue, whom do you remember still? Madonna, the muse who really is forever 21! Fast-forward five months to today. ??Cheap chic emporium Forever 21 is no chump when it comes to

London Fashion Week: Luella Spring / Summer 2010

The Luella Bartley collection still retains the tongue-in-cheek attitude of former collections. For Spring/Summer 10 the Luella girl has grown up… Gone are the ditsy prints and layers of tulle we've come to expect from the former Voguette-turned-designer. Instead, in their place, Luella Bartley presented us with a more formal collection of fun, flirty dresses and pretty skirt suits. More moderate than Bartley's usual style, the collection still retains the tongue-in-cheek attitude of former collections. A spectrum of colours was on offer ranging from muted tones of beige, black and white to louder shades of lemon, pale blue and bright red. Dresses with sweetheart necklines, and even one with a cutout heart on the front, stole the show and are
