MY BLOG:

STYLE YOUR SUCCESS, LIVE YOUR DREAM...

The FocusOnStyle Blog
Helping You + Your Business Get Out There!

Make it your business to live your dream…

I inadvertently started my blog during my infant son’s nap time back in 1999… before the term ‘blog’ was even popular.

Through it all, I believe…

Your style is your fingerprint in all that you do… it’s how you see the world + how the world perceives you.

The blog archives go back to the beginning and are updated regularly.  You’ll find 1,000’s of posts about modern business, branding, positioning, marketing, photos, fashion, style, beauty, lifestyle… and most importantly, how to do anything authentically. Enjoy!

For the Love of All that is timeless, edgy…

Commes des Garcons collection debuts at H&M When dissected from their imaginative styling, the quirky, yet very wearable pieces designed by Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçons for H&M are coming to a price point for you! Once upon a time, there was a certain fashion shorthand to show that you were in the ‘club': A Helmut Lang (the man, not the brand) jacket, a Martin Margiela sweater, some Prada shoes, and a Commes de Garcons shirt or two. Sprinkle in some Hermes accessories, a Cartier piece of jewelry, a pair of well-worn jeans, and there you have it, the iconic wardrobe of the fashion insider albeit photographer, art director, gallery owner, interior designer, talent agent, or stylist. But here's

My Love for Boys is very, very good…

In a Blonde Haze/My Love for Boys… The artist Vincent Gagliostro, our art director, my friend, and the one you want to blame for hiring me on my first stylist shoot a century ago, has collaborated with artist Susan Shup on a brilliant video art film called, "In a Blonde Haze/My Love for Boys.” The video’s title is based on a line from Le Livre Blanc by Cocteau, "as far back as I can remember and even at the age when the mind still has no power over the senses, I find traces of my love for boys". The sleek and edgy video is in concert with the Slick 2008 art fair in Paris this weekend. Info: "In a Blonde

Oslo Style: What to Wear in October… and, how to make lilac work

Home Town Style: Oslo, Norway… I began my shopping adventure today at 10 AM trying to catch up on what the greatest fashion stores in Oslo had to offer this week. It's starting to get pretty cold here with temperature dropping to 5-10 degrees Celsius (41-50 degrees Fahrenheit) so we are getting into our winter looks. Lot's of faux fur, casual boots, bohemian tops and waistcoats are found everywhere. And, the trend color that caught my eye this time is LILAC! I love the deep and luxurious shade of lilac that most stores offer this fall. I have actually been dreaming of a pair of lilac velvet skinny-pants, ever since I bought and then threw away a pair 12 years

How to grow out a bob hairstyle- Tips to avoid the dreaded soccer mom hairdo

I personally know how difficult it can be to stylishly grow out a bob hairstyle. Let's help this reader avoid the dreaded soccer mom hairdo in the process. I make an effort to keep my hair up-to-date and have been working a bob hairstyle for the past year. I loved the hairstyle and its simple chic appeal. However, its time has passed for me and I want to move on to a longer hairstyle. Here's the thing, now that my bob has grown out a bit and my hair reaches to the middle if my neck, my once cool cut has taken on the neither here nor there look of a suburban soccer mom-- sans the pearl studs and chinos!
