Runway Review: Wild yet wearable, Custo sticks to its style roots and remains the collection to push your fashion boundaries
The fall 2012 Custo Barcelona collection takes the brand’s iconic textures, psychedelic colors and prints, and one of a kind designs to a new roughed up and tough level. At the same time it comes off as one of the most wearable, wild collections that I can recall. Lots of raw edges, pieced mixed fabrications that appear torn, zippers and moto styling, fringey boho pieces, and an endless supply of thick and slubby yarns. throw in some sequins and fur and you’ve got the exotic euro look down.

I love the body-con mini dresses with center front panels of shiny prints or pieced in fabrics of various textures and shine. the de-constructed moto jackets reign supreme and my favorite outerwear piece is a trench with contrast color banding and cut-out panel near the hem held together with single strings of yarn – this will be a highly lusted after piece for our lower east side girl. any of the mini skirts can be pulled out and worn with basic tops and tanks for a look that has a unique flare but won’t bring gawkers.

The Custo line holds a place in new york fashion week because it pushes boundaries in a fun and incredibly funky way that the rest of the ready-to-wear lines don’t do. This season maintains that style but can be worn by most fashionistas. Any more wearable though, and it may fall into the classic looks we see all over the runways! — Alix Kivlin
