Princess for a day…

Make it a Disney wedding gown

Disney launches a collection of Disney Princess-inspired wedding gowns. The designer bridal line is officially called Kirstie Kelly for Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings Collection where every wedding dress is inspired by a Disney princess.

Frankly, I’m still trying to get over my last Disney experience taking in hoards of Theme Park visitors of all shapes and sizes wearing the warm (and not so warm) weather tourist uniform of unflattering short shorts, white boxy sneakers, and white athletic socks. I wish had a magic makeover wand to turn each and every waddling pair of pull-on shorts into a becoming, comfy and casual summer outfit— that would be magic!

I also have to admit that I never had the fantasy of being a Princess in a gargantuan white Cinderella dream dress at my fairytale wedding extravaganza either.

There are millions of brides-to-be out there who prefer the big deal, lavish wedding, and that’s just great for them. So when I heard that Disney was launching a collection of Disney Princess-inspired wedding gowns, the jaded fashionista in me had to grimace, but I am honestly enchanted to say that the Disney fairytale weddings gowns unveiled during the fashionable NY Bridal Week are truly charming if a romantic fantasy wedding is your thing.

We are all more than aware that Disney knows how to produce a terrific product, however from a fashion standpoint, it’s interesting that the upscale Disney wedding gowns are far more elegant and beautiful than some other designer “fairy tale” bridal gowns that I’ve seen around.

The very pretty bridal line is officially called Kirstie Kelly for Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings Collection where every dress is “inspired by the unique spirit and personality of each Disney Princess” and it’s by far not a souvenir line in that the bridal gowns are priced between $1,100 and $3,500 US dollars.

This writer aside, “Every bride wants to be a Princess on their wedding day, and they want the magical feeling that goes along with it. This collection captures that magic extremely well,” says Jim Calhoun, executive VP, global apparel, Disney Consumer Products.

The Disney Princess bridal collection brings together an elegant fashion edge with iconic elements inspired by the unique individual style of the Disney Princesses themselves, including Ariel, Aurora/Sleeping Beauty, Belle, Cinderella, Jasmine and Snow White while using traditional bridal fabrics like organza, chantilly lace, chiffon, satins and tulle with lovely decorative embellishments. There is also a “Maidens” collection for bridesmaids; I’m assuming that the Ugly Stepsisters need not apply and there is no Wicked Stepmother of the Bride collection either.

Now if Disney would like to further their foray into style, I’m your girl to take the makeover plunge to spruce-up the casual attire worn by Theme Park visitors– tips, talks, television, a collection, my magic makeover wand is ready if you are!
