    Rochas Slingbacks Fall 2011

Think of this as your “How To Wear Low Heels” tip sheet…

Blame it on the abundance of too-high heels, walking behind girls fumbling in them, or our admiration for the cool retro sophistication that Rochas has been championing as of late, but we are beginning to rethink the short heel and their recent wearable reemergence on the scene.

Once matronly and down-right blase, the updates to what we consider the “smart” heel height offer an entirely new way to think about proportion and comfort. From gram to grand slam, there’s plenty out there to give you an alternative to ho-hum ballerina flats.

We’ll take the printed Rochas slingbacks above and our top three picks as featured below and suggest wearing them with:

-Dark tights and ruched knit socks for a look that’s either sleek or geek

-Cigarette legged pants and bare legs for a linear lift in height

-Shorter hems, boxier shapes and clean separates for a fresh take on proportions

Only Miuccia Prada could whip up a girly pair of wearable heels for Miu Miu and make them irresistibly modern with decadent gem encrusted brass heels that have a whimsical vintage undertone while appearing understated for universal appeal.

The mary-janes from Rochas above possess the kind of vintage flair we’ve grown to love from the brand over the past few season’s and pack a subtle punch with their delicate silhouette and dreamy metallic finishing.

While the pleasantly pale Stella McCartney’s above make our inclinations towards the demure all the more obvious, they do make for a smart consideration. The gloss from the patent gives them the perfect dose of dolly-girl sweetness while the brass details and short square heel give them the right amount of lady-like polish.

But more importantly, like all the options we’ve culled, they have a restrained elegance that’s destined to give you optimized options day into night.
