Fall 2012 saw the designer continuing with his minimalist, vaguely military stance with a line-up of sophisticated gear that should have this designer gaining savvy customers ten-fold.

Neil Barrett Fall 2012

In their words:

Mid-century haute couture is translated into a new type of sportswear. The high chic of structured caban coats are fused with the functional allure of the parka, feminine meeting masculine. A cropped bomber turns to reveal a sacque-back, a duffle is cut with the striking volume of an opera-coat.

Outfits juxtapose strength and fragility, construction and fluidity. Cocooning wool and cashmere overcoats contrast against sports trousers cut in silk crepe, and sweatshirts in fur and shearling.

Fitted and oversized play against one another, a slender silhouette alleviated by volume in a short skirt or hip-length coat. Trompe l’oeil double jackets and dresses give the impression of another garment perched on the wearer’s shoulders, a casual and quintessentially modern nonchalance in dressing for day and evening.

The palette is focused, muted, emphasising the luxury of the fabrics. Rich merlot burgundy, velvety black, cinnamon biscuit with shots of vibrant vermilion and metallic copper and gunmetal.

Shoes are a hybrid of classic men’s tasseled brogues with a hiking boot, balanced on a cylindrical heel. Top-handle bags are reconfigured as a sleek and modern clutch.
