LA Fashion Week: Lana Fuchs Runway Review, Spring 2008

Lana Fuchs Couture

A Couture Wonderland…

The Lana Fuchs Couture fashion show was an opulent mash of party dresses, gowns, bold prints and colors, ruffles, fringe, and so much more! I do love, however, that they kept the make-up and hair minimal at best so that all the attention could be focused on the clothing. The hair was pulled away from the face, smooth but loosely set. A nude lip and cat eyes were all they needed to top it off.

There was a great little selection of printed dresses on the runway that I couldn’t get my mind off. My favorite was the sweetheart party dress (pictured) with a floral print that was suitable for dinner or dancing and can fit many body types. I especially enjoyed that the print was on a black background, which makes it mature and less Easter dress, which it may have run the risk of being. Other prints included butterflies and bold colored abstract prints.

Another set of party dresses also included fringe that was very reminiscent of Project Runway castoff Keith. His idea of fringe was essentially squares of fabric sewn onto the dress which in the words of Cher, was a “Full-on Monet– from far away its OK but up close its a big old mess!” Luckily Fuchs’ dresses were much more tailored and actually displayed the figure without letting the fringe distract.

Opulence was a major theme in this fashion collection, from the LBD’s to the floor-length gowns. Ruffles, floral appliques, chiffon detailing, off-the-shoulder tops, hanging strips of fabric, and sequins are all elements that took these dresses from simple party dresses to couture gowns.

And while I feel that a couple of the ball gowns were more 18th Century Spain, there was one that truly caught my eye. It was a rose colored trumpet silhouette with a shiny bodice and matte bubble bottom. The bubble was full but not so much so that it took over the look. The dress draped beautifully and the color can flatter most any skin type. This was definitely a collection to remember, with pieces that can appeal to those with the most simple of tastes to the couture fashionistas of the world. Elizabeth in LA
