Mulberry’s  Fall 2012 outing at London fashion week was a heady mix of textures, shimmer, glam and fur. On view was a typical fun ride from the luxe leather goods label with voluminous hairy fur skirts and coats echoed by the two giant monster-sized Yetti guards at the runway entrance along with the label’s traditional runway dog appearance featuring an adorable Puli dog in a Mulberry coat on the catwalk- he has his own Yeti fur, thank you.

If it’s the It Bag that you long for, Mulberry introduced the Del Ray, named after American singer Lana Del Rey. The bag launches in May and is  a modern take on retro structure combined with classic Mulberry details, “The Del Rey bag takes the retro glamour that Lana emanates to create a modern Mulberry classic,” goes the Mulberry pr.

In their words…

For guests in receipt of the giant key invitations, Mulberry opened the doors to the Claridge’s Ballroom on Sunday 19 February and unveiled its new season secret: a luxurious collection inspired by wild things and mysterious expeditions through faraway lands.

The show, Mulberry’s first on schedule, transformed the decadent splendour of Claridge’s Hotel into a monster’s lair, where guests entered through a forest of willows. They were then met with a fantastical scene of giant gold padlocks, inspired by the iconic refined padlock used on Mulberry accessories since the brand’s inception, clustered and covering the walls outside the Ballroom and keeping the final inspiration under (giant) lock and key until the show doors opened.

Once inside, guests including Lana Del Rey, Michelle Williams, Elizabeth Olsen, Bill Nighy, Lou Lesage, Olivie Palermo, Tinie Tempah, Michelle Dockery, Tom Hiddleston, Leigh Lezark and Azealia Benks found themselves in the monster’s den – with the seats covered in soft shaggy goat hides reminiscent of monster fur and the inhabitants immediately evident; two gigantic monsters standing tall either side of the catwalk as a supersized reference to the wild furry creatures that inspired the collection.

On the catwalk models including Alana Zimmer and Hanne Gaby showed off Mulberry’s most comprehensive collection of womenswear yet was styled to reference fur textures, mysterious prints, beautiful cuts and romantic layers – silk, lace trim and voluminous soft fabrics all worked together to create a contemporary take on vintage womenswear silhouettes. The bags that accompanied the clothes included versions of Mulberry’s newest icon, the Del Rey, inspired by the Old Hollywood glamour and nostalgic beauty of American songstress Lana Del Rey, who attended the show with her namesake accessory in striking White Ostrich, made especially for her.

Mindful of the 10am start on a Sunday morning, Bloody Marys, fresh juice and bacon butties were served post-show. Guests could also enjoy the mini monster truffles that were left on their seats!

Autumn Winter 2012 is shaping up to be a wild and wonderful season…

Let the wild rumpus begin!
