Runway Styling Inspiration to Get the Chanel Haute Couture Look

Spring styling tips to extend your wardrobe with this hot off the runway vibe

There are a few things that I’m pretty sure of in this life.

And one is that I probably won’t be having the fortune of wearing Chanel Haute Couture anytime soon. Neither as part of the elite few who can afford the luxury or as a celebrity who gets to borrow a couture piece for a red carpet event.

But I can help YOU get the look by way of its styling.

For the Spring 2011 Chanel Haute Couture collection shown yesterday during Paris Couture fashion Week, Karl Lagerfeld said he had Blake Lively, the “Gossip Girl” star and new Chanel spokesmodel in mind when designing the collection.

There’s was certainly an essence of off-handed styling details and the strongest street inspired to couture runway and then back to YOU styling touch was the return of skinny pants as a layer under more feminine staples.

Chanel Haute Couture- Spring 2011

“This is the way the young women of today dress,” the AP reported Lagerfeld told journalists in a post-show interview. “It’s not like the old days anymore, and couture has to be able to change and adapt.”

Let’s go full circle and bring the Chanel Haute Couture styling into your spring wardrobe, and you may even already own some of the pieces!

>>SHOP: Cute Flats

What you’ll need:

  • Classic tweed jacket– Pluck one from a business suit or one of your vintage finds.
  • Chiffon mini dress– I’m not a fan of babydoll looks or pastels but in this combination, it gets a sophisticated edge and adds life to a summer cocktail dress.
  • Skinny pants- I love the split side of the Chanel pants… think of how many others ways they can work in your wardrobe.
  • Black pointy flats– the pointy toe and straight vamp of these flats adds a more modern edge than classic ballerina flats.
