With the Spring/Summer 2013 collection, Umit Benan Sahin describes the summer vacations of young urban men who share the same aesthetic and cultural sensibility: a varied crew with a strong identity. The setting is the sea and the romantic Tyrrhenian coast full of little everyday rituals, consolidated family customs, and Italian flair with international influences. The relaxed mood encourages moments of camaraderie and connection in all-time favorite places.
Travel, which is a major theme of the brand, is portrayed here by the trip from the family home to the beach. The young men of the Trussardi dynasty, in their perfectly coordinated and exquisitely detailed outfits, head to the beach on foot or by bike, accompanied by their inseparable greyhounds on leash.
The collection expresses history and tradition – the colors, materials and silhouettes are inspired by the brand’s heritage – but with a contemporary twist. Classic combinations have an edgy, fresh, contemporary feel, with details that consistently reflect the look of the Trussardi man on vacation and at leisure.
The looks are based on precise color palettes in different tone-on-tone nuances: green, from bottle green to sage; different shades of blue that ultimately veer towards black; yellow combined with ochre, tan, and tobacco; and variations of white, from classic white to off-white.
The garments tell the story of a man on vacation, relaxed at any time of day. Light washed silk or linen shirts inspired by classic cuts or caftans are soft and slightly bloused. Special pockets were designed to hold a newspaper that can be tucked away and then easily be pulled out and read at any moment. There are cotton trousers and Bermuda shorts, as well as swim trunks in solid colors or with a Trussardi logo print. Even formal suits are worn with nonchalance, and their sartorial construction is offset by summery fabrics such as linen and cotton.
The Trussardi logo – the historical Trussardi greyhound in an oval frame, which is the first logo in history used by a fashion house – is the star of this collection. Applied to polo shirts and jackets, it also appears in whimsical prints. The Holiday motif – which ironically blends parts of the Trussardi family’s summer home with iconic elements typical of a chic vacation at the beach – is sometimes used over a micro-print inspired by the lining of an old steamer trunk found in the Trussardi archives.
Leather, which is a signature element and favorite material of Trussardi, is also an indubitable protagonist on vacation through unique details such as trim on beach towels and new experimental finishes, such as sailcloth-like smooth nappa leather, which resembles nylon at a distance but has an extraordinarily soft and light feel. Leather garments also feature the typical piqué pattern used for polo shirts. The most direct references to the brand’s heritage are the jackets in peccary leather, which was initially used by Trussardi for its finest gloves and is now used to make clothing even more special.
Accessories are the heart of the Trussardi Spring/Summer 2013 collection and add a unique touch to the outfits. Travel bags include time-tested favorites that return each season and new Trussardi classics given unusual touches and unexpected colors that blend modernity and tradition, such as smoky blue and bright yellow paired up with leather.
There are casual backpacks, gym bags, and totes in soft nappa leather, ostrich leather, and crocodile for going out and about in style. Bags also appear on the beautiful new bikes that take the young Trussardi men to the shore. The new model, inspired by the historic bike of the eighties, features unique accessories, leather trim, and a tiny greyhound logo print.
The footwear reflects the spirit of the collection and consistently completes the look: lace-ups, slippers, moccasins, and classic styles all have subtle details that make them cool and contemporary.
The sunglasses, realized by Charmant Group, are a must at the beach: with their square frames and often futuristic yellow lenses, they have become a modern classic. Two drops of Trussardi Uomo for men and Trussardi Donna for women, produced and distributed by ITF, complete the Trussardi world.
Trussardi’s summer expresses a new concept of relax and has never been more chic.
