Runway Review Except: The old world, highly feminine glamour is missing from current fashion trends and Anna Sui smoothly mixes retro + sexy, making you want to pucker up that red pout and blow a kiss to the waving men on the boat deck.
The Anna Sui Spring 2012 collection channeled a glamorous 1940’s girl all dolled up to impress the boys of Fleet Week! Fire engine red lipstick, cartoonish jewelry, bow belts and ankle socks worn with patent leather mary janes all fit the bill and made fun with the art deco style fashions. Sequin and fur bedroom jackets worn over frilly ruffle dresses or high waist short-shorts and a sailor cap gave us the glam of the era, and playful prints of flowers, hearts and stars brought out the young girl. A clean and bright palette of red, white, blue, purple, yellow and grounded with black has a very patriotic feel.
The accessories really make this collection special and fun with printed turbans, wide brim hats with huge flowers, domino and heart necklaces, star and heart patterned socks and tights and colorful, striped loafers and Mary Janes. If you choose not to buy the clothing, you can find yourself some merriment in the accessories!

There was a perfect balance of lace lingerie inspired frocks, tailored and body conscious denim and printed silk charmuese in dresses, jumpsuits, tap shorts and flutter sleeve blouses so you can choose to cover-up or show some skin to the googling sailor boys. There are a lot of prints and print mixing and none of it is too over the top, these pieces are great to add some character to your wardrobe and be mixed or paired with solid staples.
Anna Sui certainly was having fun when she designed this line and struck out on a path all her own. The old world, highly feminine glamour is missing from current fashion trends and this line smoothly mixes retro + sexy, making you want to pucker up that red pout and blow a kiss to the waving men on the boat deck. — Alix Kivlin
