The FocusOnStyle Blog
Helping You + Your Business Get Out There!

Make it your business to live your dream…

I inadvertently started my blog during my infant son’s nap time back in 1999… before the term ‘blog’ was even popular.

Through it all, I believe…

Your style is your fingerprint in all that you do… it’s how you see the world + how the world perceives you.

The blog archives go back to the beginning and are updated regularly.  You’ll find 1,000’s of posts about modern business, branding, positioning, marketing, photos, fashion, style, beauty, lifestyle… and most importantly, how to do anything authentically. Enjoy!

GOLDEN GLOBES BEAUTY- How to get Zoey Dechanel’s 60’s inspired makeup

Red Carpet Beauty Review: Dolly Girl pretty makeup It's hard not to love the one-of-a-kind Prada embellished gown with emerald bodice. After all, it totally compliments the one-of-a-kind style of its wearer. Zoey Dechanel beats to her own quirky fashion drum, and that's what we love about her, right down to her kooky "tuxedo" nails. No natural makeup needed, but a quirky, pretty doll look mastered by Rimmel of London makeup artist Jorgee. GOLDEN GLOBES FASHION- Loving the Minimalist Chic of Rooney Mara and Claire Danes

Rooney Mara in Nina Ricci
Rooney Mara in Nina Ricci Golden Globes Fashion Red Carpet Review: As the celebrities make their way through red carpet arrivals, it's clear the minimalist looks are the most stunning. It's easy to make a frothy dress look glam. Pile on the fabric, cinch in the waist, add some glimmer and the princess is good to go. But when it comes to sophisticated chic, a well-cut dress with strong lines is stunning beyond compare without wearing the wearer. Rooney Mara in perfect black Nina Ricci that she described to E! as being "comfortable and simple" is one of the most spectacular looks on the  red carpet that we've seen in a while. Well, except for the last time Rooney was on the

Pippa Middleton’s Fashion Mistake- Color Blocks Her Legs To Look Shorter

Pippa Middleton with her Aruna Seth Romana Bag
I (Don't) Want What She's Having: Legs that look stumpy from poor fashion choices Pippa Middleton, the every-girl style icon is looking decidedly edgy for herself. While the particular wash of her fuchsia jeans is not our favorite with its strange dye markings down the side, we appreciate her effort to spunk up a classic dark blazer with a burst of color paired with her go-to Aruna Seth Romina bag. But, here's where Pippa went wrong... Her calf-high black boots completely cut her body off into thirds! It's a color blocking disaster gone short and dumpy, while over-emphasizing muscular legs. The Aldo Elks bootie is short enough to create a longer leg and its platform will make Pippa's legs look even

Beautiful Fall- Valentino Fall 2012 Menswear

It's no secret that we're big fans of the direction Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli have taken Valentino since taking the helm of the storied house a few years ago and their latest outing for Fall 2012 men's wear was another remarkable achievement of masterful tailoring updated with a subtle sense of subversion. While the base of the collection was a dashing yet familiar classic suit, collared shirt and tie, jackets and outerwear were updated in sculpted cocoon shapes and color-blocking and featured dropped shoulders, contrasting fabrications and collar tabs that allowed for coats to be worn elegantly over the shoulders. This lent the collection a thoroughly modern appeal that was original, while a moody color palette kept it

How To (Not) Wear a Faux Fur Vest- the trend is trickier than it seems

What looks pretty on the model can be rather tricky on an everyday woman
Faux fur vests are probably one of the hottest fashion trends of the moment. The thing is that they are also rather tricky to wear. If you are not careful, you could look like a wild hairy beast that took over the mall. Not to mention that fur vests are not the most practical way to stay warm on anything other than a mild day. Let's get the faux fur vest trend right. Here we have a lovely, chic model wearing the Quotation: Sanctuary Original Natalie Faux Fur Vest from Bloomingdales, picture left above. To the right, we have a real woman buried in one too many trends of the moment, including a faux fur vest. Our real lady in the photo

I'll Have What She's Having: A modern take on feminine style Michelle Williams recently made a sophisticated ladylike statement on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno in an elegant Jason Wu black & ivory ensemble that boasted a prim peplum and decadent embroidery and made a case for the demure, figure flattering power of one of the season's top trends: the peplum. Beyonce bought this lucite crib and it’s pretty darn fab!

Vetro Crib
I can see clearly now, the baby's here... First time moms always lament over the right crib to buy... I know I drove myself crazy. Cribs, for the most part, are not particularly decor friendly when you live in a modern home. Then there are the cribs that look like prisons with their  safety rails blocking view of the precious one. US magazine reports that Beyonce purchased a lucite Nurseyworks Vetro crib back in November for baby Blue Ivy. The crib has a hefty price tag, but if you can afford it, it offers a full-on view of baby so concerned parents can have an uninterrupted view of their little one. It's gorgeous and super sleek too.
