Note From Sharon…
Happy end of September! Fall is my favorite season (jackets, sweaters and boots!!!) and the time when many of us start to focus on how to end the year on a high note. What are you planning in your business?

It’s also a big concert time. We saw Paul McCartney last week. I posted clips on my Instagram story and on Facebook for you! A Hard Day’s Night & Maybe I’m Amazed were my favorite songs.
And a big event time. I spoke at a live event in North Carolina last week and have some more coming up.
What it’s also time for is showing up.
For anything. For everything.
Because how you show up in one way is how you show up in every way.
It shows up in how you present yourself, in how you are seen, in how you work and in what expectations you have for those who work with you.
You show up in how you say yes to what you know you need rather than putting things off for “some day” and have them chip away at you… bleh!
So how are you planning to check off what you need to do before the year ends?
Now for what’s happening on FocusOnStyle this week…

The Personal Style Of Legendary Authors And The Clothes They Wore With Terry Newman [7 Days To Amazing Podcast]
I don’t know about you but I find true personal style so fascinating.
Not necessarily from a fashion point of view but as an extension of the soul of the person and how it plays with their being. The intrigue of the style message speaks as loudly as the written message, and it is magnified when it is echoed through some of our favorite authors.
On this week’s episode of the 7 Days to Amazing Podcast, we take a look into the lives of some of the most legendary authors in history and examine how their way of life, personal styles and ways of dressing had an impact on their works of literature.
Terry Newman, author of Legendary Authors And The Clothes They Wore, joins me to discuss her book and make connections between authors and their signature personal style, history, and being. Every author tells a story and each story is shaped by their own individual “signature.”
If you are a work from home entrepreneur or writer, think about the correlation of how what you wear when no one really “sees” you reflects the way you spend your day.
Listen in and enjoy this fascinating interview as we discover the style behind the words!

Copywriting Tip: The Difference Between Opened And Closed Loops
Close the loop when writing copy.
When writing a blog post, article, email or any other type of copy, you must recognize the difference between an opened and closed loop. There are two main ideas when it comes to making a point in your writing. One is the opened loop, which means you reach your conclusion by building on ideas throughout the copy. Your “and so” statement leads to another “and so” until you build a case… The other option is using a closed loop. Closed loops are matter of fact. Think, “yes or no” answer.
Where the magic happens is when you reach the closed loop conclusion through the opened loop body,. You can build your argument to a summit, leaving it in a very matter of fact way – This creates the biggest impact for your readers and helps them appreciate your final message.

Video + Photo Tips: Your Background Counts + Plus, What’s The ONE Word?
The set and setting of how you position yourself in a headshot or video is super important.
You don’t want your background to distract from you and you certainly want it to instantly convey the right image of who you are. So, you know when I shoot a live video in my hotel room with an unmade bed behind me and a pile of junk that’s it to demonstrate how NOT to do this yourself.
I shot this right before I left to speak at a live event in North Carolina this weekend. You can watch a livestream of my talk, here.

How To Take Better Selfies
Honestly, the first time that I heard the word “selfie” I thought it was a joke.
But since 2012, the word “selfie” grew in popularity more than 17,000% with 93 million selfies taken every day, and over 304 million posts on Instagram alone that use the #selfie hashtag. The folks at YouCam app report that 36% of people use filters and apps to edit their selfies.
So, that’s a lot of stats to take the selfie seriously.
It was hard for me to grasp since my background as a stylist on photo shoots had me thinking that it was almost impossible to take a pro-looking photo yourself, let alone with your phone.
Once I figured it out, it really is simple to become your own best photographer, so much so that I created a step by step system to teach anyone exactly what you need to look great in photos.
It’s not just the ego boost of having a cute photo on Facebook, it’s critical that you have an array of photos that are on brand, look professional, and most important, easy to create better selfies to elevate your personal brand image whenever you need them, especially if you have an online presence.
