Frankly, I miss Cher.

I really did like Bjork’s wacky bird dress.

And all the other Academy Award getups that may not have been politically fashionably correct, but sure did show off the wearer’s personality.

It gets terribly boring to spot stars decked out as a clone of their stylist’s fashion connections with not an iota of their own personal style in play.

Instead of seeing who is wearing what dress it too frequently becomes what dress is wearing which star. Worse off, while glamorous they may want to appear, the celebs look darn uncomfortable— awkward is clearly not chic!

Thankfully, this year’s Oscar fashion, while heavy on old time movie star allure, had plenty of gorgeous glamorous gowns that well-suited its wearers with nary a misstep in sight, if only a few fair frocks.

Cate Blanchett and Rene Zellweggerare two of the chicest actors around- they never falter in wearing something stunning that is uniquely their own. Cate’s look was flawless. Her tough-to-pull-off banana yellow Valentino Couture gown was perfectly suited to her pale complexion and delicate figure. While a similarly colored Oscar de la Renta gown washed out on brunette Penelope Cruz.

Presenter Oprah Winfrey looked gorgeous! Everything about her– hair, make-up, figure, Vera Wang golden gown, and attitude was amazing. To all those clamoring for the next photo op, take note: there is only one Oprah and she owns her style.

Hillary Swank‘s bod looked more buff than her Oscar in a form-fitting, jersey Guy Laroche gown with a surprise bare back that exploded into a waterfall of a draped train. But that murky mauve of-the-moment lipstick shade works so much better on a less sallow complexion. Leave it toSalma Hayek to sexify Prada into a classy Latina bombshell who looks like she knows just what she wants and how to get it.

Oscar winner Jamie Foxx‘s young daughter and date, Corrine, was simply scrumptious in her girly white gown and matching gloves. While Charlize Theron has the poise to nail a big girl ruffle-tieredJohn Galliano for Christian Dior candy-colored confection that would have overpowered any other mere mortal.

Let the individuals prevail.
