What could possibly make the PT Cruiser or the new Beetle seem so five miles ago in trendy retro car cuteness?

The MINI COOPER!

As soon as I saw a preview of this cutie pie, I knew that the Cooper would be the next best rage on the road. It’s incredibly modern in a classic black and white film kind of way. It’s red is reminiscent of a perfect pedicure. And, most important, its ticket price is throwaway chic as far as cars go.

But hold on to your horsepower, the Lilliputian lovely won’t have it’s US release until next March. Until then, just keep humming, These Boots Are Made For Walking.

So much for the head’s up, here’s the backup: The original Mini Cooper, engineered by race car constructor, the late John Cooper, was launched to rallying success such as triple Monte Carlo rally wins between 1964 and 1967. This will be the first new product from the MINI brand since its inception in 1959.
MINI COOPER and MINI COOPER ‘S’ (a higher performance model) will go on sale in the US in March 2002 via a select group of existing dealers from BMW North America’s retail network. Although pricing for the car has yet to be finalized, the MINI COOPER is likely to go on sale in the US below $18,000.
