What the heck is b-roll and how to make it authentic to you? Yup, you hear about b-roll and have no idea of why it's so important. B-roll are the takeaway shots that create a story and help your audience connect with your message, lifestyle, values. They are the images that speak for themselves without words. The easy solution is to just buy stock footage. BUT, not only does descent stock (not the creepy stock that looks like a bad insurance ad from 1988) cost a lot it does not represent you! Yeah, you. So how the heck can you tell YOUR story and not clip together a batch of inauthentic clips that may or may not look like the

How to take better selfies

3 tips for better selfies
It's National Selfie Day! I thought I'd take the opportunity to share some simple tips to take a better selfie. Honestly, the first time that I heard the word "selfie" I thought it was a joke. But since 2012, the word “selfie” grew in popularity more than 17,000% with 93 million selfies taken every day, and over 304 million posts on Instagram alone that use the #selfie hashtag. The folks at YouCam app report that 36% of people use filters and apps to edit their selfies. So, that's a lot of stats to take the selfie seriously. It was hard for me to grasp since my background as a stylist on photo shoots had me thinking that it was almost impossible to take a pro-looking

American Cool: What is cool to you?

What is American Cool? One of the highlights from our family trip to Washington, D.C. this weekend was taking in the "American Cool" exhibition of 100 People Who Define Cool in Arresting Photographs at the National Portrait Gallery. It's a collection of 100 photos that go deep into the soul of those who posess that certain edge. Honestly, cool is probably the most overused word in my personal vocabulary.

Andy Warhol (American, 1928–1987). Red Jackie, 1964.
Once upon a time, if I was at a party and Andy Warhol turned up, I knew I was in the right place. Beyond being lucky enough to be old enough (age is good for something) to have grown up with Pop Art and its exposure to appreciate Andy Warhol as the great leveler of pop culture and celebrity... those nights at Studio 54 didn't hurt either to realize either that rubbing disco elbows with someone famous is no different than the cute boy across the room. >>MORE: Museums For me, the timing of attending the preview of the Regarding Warhol: Sixty Artists, Fifty Years exhibition at The Metropolitan Museum of Art during New York Fashion Week last week raises
