STYLE YOUR SUCCESS, LIVE YOUR DREAM...

The FocusOnStyle Blog
Helping You + Your Business Get Out There!

Make it your business to live your dream…

I inadvertently started my blog during my infant son’s nap time back in 1999… before the term ‘blog’ was even popular.

Through it all, I believe…

Your style is your fingerprint in all that you do… it’s how you see the world + how the world perceives you.

The blog archives go back to the beginning and are updated regularly.  You’ll find 1,000’s of posts about modern business, branding, positioning, marketing, photos, fashion, style, beauty, lifestyle… and most importantly, how to do anything authentically. Enjoy!

How Much to Retouch Without Going to the Extreme

Is what you see what really is? Probably not. Smash, crumble, pop... sorry to break the illusion of perceived perfection but you gotta know, what you gotta know. Photos in magazines and ads get retouched-- we know that. Every time a celebrity photo gets overdone, the blogosphere goes mad with Photoshop rage. And rightly so. But a little helpful "cleaning up" only enhances the image. Master retoucher and former Ford model Sharon Daniels unveils what really is behind the photo that you see and why. --S.H.

Cool Kids Clothing From AllSaints For Your Fashion Angels

Forget the pastels, mama wants children's clothing with edge! Mini Me Delight... As soon as I walked into the new store in SoHo, the downtown NYC the city mom in me fell completely in love with the most adorable, on trend, and cool kids clothing that were on display at the British AllSaints Spitalfield store. It was a total mini me mecca of the hippest (and not insanely expensive) kids clothes that I've seen in a long time-- from a rugged motorcycle jacket, to architecturally gathered dresses, ruffed up lace-up boots, skull T-shirts that don't look juvenile or Jersey Shore, and knits with the AllSaints signature asymetric cut-- just everything that a kid with downtown style would want to wear!

GStyle Google Fashion Secret Is About To Be Revealed

You heard it here and will more than want to thank me (I hope)! Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week- Backstage at Franck Sorbier

With all the pomp and circumstance of Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week, we can all use some artistic whimsy Real couture, not of the juicy variety, is all about the mastery, the fabulousness, the uniqueness of its garments that are worn by a select few hundred women across the world who can afford the luxury. Or, the lucky brand ambassador actress who gets to strut a couture gown on the red carpet for the occasion. French fashion designer Franck Sorbier presented more of an avant garde art piece for his Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2010-2011 collection, and we just love it! We would love to see Katy Perry wearing this paper and clothespin design before Lady Gaga crumbles up a newspaper

Fashion Downsizing with Six Items or Less is the Antidote to Haul Videos

When less really is more, the new anti-consumerism site can spark fashion creativity I have to admit that I find the shopping haul video trend rather disquieting. Even though I am in fashion business and have overstuffed closets, its jarring for me to watch a video of someone sitting in front of her computer and gushing over her latest shopaholic purchase of the day, whether it be a glossy new lipstick or a cute top. In a time of economic restraint for most, it's fascinating to me as to how there are hoards of fashionistas obsessed in the gorging of the latest fast-fashion cheapie trend rather than understanding that style is the amalgamation of the sum of its parts and

Circle Lenses, The Lady Gaga Inspired Fashion Trend We Encourage You To NOT Try At Home

Photo via The New York Times The Latest Disturbing Fashion Trend: Those huge anime eyes are becoming mainstream thanks to Lady Gaga I've definitely come across girls with weird cartoon-like contacts on but haven't paid much mind to this odd looking beauty fad. However, when the front page of today's The New York Times has a story about circle lenses becoming mainstream, it's time to take notice... well, without popping a mega contact lens in for solidarity. The circle contact lens covers part of the white of the eye enlarging the area that a normal contact lens would cover and thus creating the cartoon look. It's not unusual for circle lenses to be in jarring colors to make them appear

Hollister Has Bedbugs

During better times: Swimsuit clad boys perch outside the door of Hollister store in SoHo What will the half-naked models do on their days off? The NY Daily News reports that bedbugs shut Hollister store in SoHo. Apparently bedbug experts were called in to comb the 40,000 sq ft store which forced its 2-day closing. "We caught it very early in the stages of detection," said an Abercrombie & Fitch source quoted in the paper. "We are investigating whether this was a selling-floor issue or a back-room issue. We are continuing testing." We were just thinking that with the half-naked model boys cum gargoyles that perch alongside the store's front door a different type of creepy crawly bed-related critter would
