The FocusOnStyle Blog
Helping You + Your Business Get Out There!

Make it your business to live your dream…

I inadvertently started my blog during my infant son’s nap time back in 1999… before the term ‘blog’ was even popular.

Through it all, I believe…

Your style is your fingerprint in all that you do… it’s how you see the world + how the world perceives you.

The blog archives go back to the beginning and are updated regularly.  You’ll find 1,000’s of posts about modern business, branding, positioning, marketing, photos, fashion, style, beauty, lifestyle… and most importantly, how to do anything authentically. Enjoy!

Verena Kerth attends Herlitz during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2014

It's getting to that time where you want to wear something new but you're still settled in the final days of summer (can you believe how fast it flew by?) and not quite up to investing in more warm weather clothing. Surely, it's still too sunny to think fall. So what to wear? Summer boots, the kind that can transition to fall have your name written all over it! Low heel ankle booties have been on the radar for a few seasons (thank you Isabel Marant & all those Parisian girls), and don't seem to be losing

6 Crimes of Fashion: Have you committed a fashion faux pas?

Honestly, how can you not resist a photo of a bulldog in leopard drag? All kidding & a cute dog picture aside, each of us have, at least once, committed a fashion faux pas. Albeit, intentionally or not, we have all suffered from the crimes of fashion to some degree. Listen up, it happens. Even if it was back in the day… the day of perms and massive earrings. (I think that was called the 80s and MTV style). Look at our cute bulldog gal above. Do you think that her curly hair flatters her saggy  turkey neck? What about all that leopard? A little animal magnetism overload perhaps? What should she/we do? Put our head in the sand and stay clear of

MUST CATCH: Cate Blanchett in Blue Jasmine, Smash & Grab diamond thiefs, and Marina Abramovic Institute on Kickstarter (with Lady Gaga)

Cate Blanchette & her Birkin in Woody Allen's Blue Jasmine
Entertain yourself with these style inspiring treats of a woman who lost it all (Cate Blanchett in Blue Jasmine), a gang who wants it all (The Pink Panther crime ring in Smash & Grab), and a performance artist (Marina Abramovic) who breaks the walls to connect art and audience in its deepest simplicity of being. Blue Jasmine Really, it's not the new Woody Allen movie. It's THE new Cate Blanchett movie Ahh, the aftermath of a boushy life. There's a rigid lifestyle credence when you're a tightly wound Upper East Side New York socialite. Once the smoke and mirrors are gone, Cate Blanchette's Jasmine character is left with not much more than her Birkin, a Chanel jacket, and a riviting performance that should

From Philadelphia to Monaco: Grace Kelly - Beyond the Icon at the McCord Museum Montreal
I'll Have What She's Having: French Canadian Chic Week continues with timeless Grace Kelly style via the "From Philadelphia to Monaco: Grace Kelly - Beyond the Icon" exhibition in Montreal. The Grace Kelly exhibition at Museum McCord in Montreal is more biographical than costume. As you walk through the galleries, what you see is deeper than the clothes themselves. French Canadian Chic Week: Authentic espadrilles, handmade & forever stylish. Plus, a little history too!

My espadrilles: Custom designed tan & black lace worn at the St. Suplice Hotel in Montreal, the Lola black platform wedge, and my red wedge espadrilles that started my obsession.
I've had a bee in my bonnet to find a replacement pair of handmade authentic espadrilles for some time. The kind that are brimming with history as timeless classics for runaround French Chic and usually made in France (think back to Brigitte Bardot in St Tropeze) or Spain (Penelope Cruz in Volver) by villagers who have been handcrafting these shoes for years. There are a few shops in Paris where I could pick them up, but I'm in New York where all points were leading to manufactured espadrilles from super cheap to  designer espadrilles as they've been a hot runway trend for a few seasons. All, a riff on what I was after, but not the real deal. Tabitha Simmons designer espadrilles- lovely, for sure,

How to stay cool yet maintain polished summer business attire élan can be a toughy  during a heat wave. Let's dive in, at least the metaphor is cooling & solve the what to wear to work when it's hot fashion dilemma… My gosh, it's a scorcher out! I just got back from a meeting in sweltering midtown Manhattan, aka Schvitz City today,  and thought I would hurry up and push this post up as long as the temperature was doing a fine job rising on its own.  Commuting to and from the office in a heat wave is a no fun zone that I'm lucky enough to avoid  most of the time. But, when that summer meeting gets me to
