Social Media Marketing: Should you buy fake followers to grow your social media? [Video]

Entrepreneurs, FAKE FOLLOWERS OR STEADY GROWTH?

If you don’t advertise but still want to grow your following “organically” this will be eye opening as well. – A funny thing happened on our way to analyzing Facebook ad targeting. – We were pretty pristine on our target and lookalike aligned audiences but suddenly started getting a lot of TOTALLY off-base responses.

Clearly, these people were not exactly the interest group of our targeted audience but were still, living breathing humans who like and comment (as a job).

As these were paid ad efforts, we started to get granular to see who the culprit was so we could stay on focus and not waste a rather large ad spend at the time.

Much to my surprise, the “crud” list were followers of a pretty major business coach. – A deeper dive proved that a BIG chunk of her audience was “fake.”

Now, this is not uncommon. – So don’t freak out that you have a teeny list.

And there is nothing wrong — if not very smart— to go after your target audience.

But padding it with fake followers to produce a vanity number won’t benefit you in scaling your brand.

Consistency and value will help you grow. – Maybe an ad spend and targeted engagement too. –

What I want to leave you with is things aren’t always as they seem- so don’t beat yourself up that your efforts are not scaling as quickly as others.

They actually might be scaling more but you’re comparing it to someone who pads.

[00:00:15.03]that I think is really important

[00:00:16.07]when you start seeing people’s followers,

[00:00:18.05]and letting you understand
are they real followers

[00:00:21.04]or are they fake followers.

[00:00:24.00]We’re here today just for a little

[00:00:26.01]location identification.

[00:00:28.02]We are in New Jersey today,

[00:00:29.08]and I’m gonna give you,

[00:00:31.08]just have my bag on the floor,

[00:00:33.07]and give this beautiful view behind me

[00:00:35.06]for a minute as we talk.

[00:00:37.02]But what I wanted to come in and say is,

[00:00:39.06]I know a lot of times when
you are in social media,

[00:00:44.01]when you are doing

[00:00:46.09]your Instagram counseling,

[00:00:48.09]Facebook counseling,

[00:00:49.08]you see people

[00:00:50.07]and you see that they have

[00:00:51.06]so many followers,

[00:00:53.01]so many followers.

[00:00:54.08]My hair is following me
in the other direction.

[00:00:57.04]And you’re like,

[00:00:58.02]oh my god,

[00:00:59.01]suddenly they went from
zero to like thousands,

[00:01:02.04]and you start to believe that they have

[00:01:04.03]the social proof of
having all these people

[00:01:07.08]who really follow them

[00:01:10.00]and are in their posse

[00:01:11.08]and that they must be really a big deal.

[00:01:13.07]But that’s not always the case.

[00:01:15.09]A lot of people have a lot
of fake followers in there.

[00:01:19.03]And one of the things I learned,

[00:01:22.00]sadly when I was doing some major,

[00:01:24.03]a very fined tuned Facebook
ad targeting at one point,

[00:01:28.01]that someone who actually had invested

[00:01:30.05]a lot of money in the past

[00:01:32.04]as a trainer and a mastermind programs,

[00:01:35.07]and we start targeting
them on social media

[00:01:38.03]and realize that we’re getting

[00:01:40.03]all these horrible people coming.

[00:01:42.05]Horrible’s a bad word,

[00:01:43.05]but people at Walmart,

[00:01:45.08]they definitely were
not the kind of people

[00:01:47.07]who would be investing,

[00:01:48.08]and someone with like
such a big sales marketing

[00:01:52.01]strategy heavy duty aligned background.

[00:01:55.01]And there’s only one reason for that,

[00:01:57.01]and that is they’re buying fake followers.

[00:01:59.02]And then other times,

[00:02:00.01]I’ve seen people who I know

[00:02:02.00]and they’ve gone from like
zero to 12,000 overnight,

[00:02:05.09]and then you start going down

[00:02:07.05]and you start realizing they have

[00:02:08.05]a lot of 12-year-old girls
in different countries

[00:02:10.06]or they have a lot of weird guys

[00:02:12.06]from different countries on there,

[00:02:14.05]so they’re not really
their targeted audience,

[00:02:16.07]but don’t get fooled when you see

[00:02:19.00]all these numbers out there thinking

[00:02:21.02]that you’re not doing enough

[00:02:22.09]because you are doing enough.

[00:02:24.04]And if you are legitimately
building your business,

[00:02:27.06]that’s something to
consider that it takes time,

[00:02:30.00]it takes consistency,

[00:02:31.06]it takes repetition.

[00:02:33.03]It takes like being authentic and real

[00:02:35.07]and the next time you see somebody

[00:02:37.05]with these really, really
souped up followers,

[00:02:41.04]take heed that a lot of them might be

[00:02:43.07]a lot of garbage.

[00:02:44.07]They might all be fake followers

[00:02:46.05]And scroll through it,

[00:02:48.01]and when you start seeing
a lot of weird people

[00:02:50.03]who don’t look aligned
with what that person does

[00:02:53.07]and don’t look aligned with that

[00:02:55.02]brand message that they have

[00:02:56.07]or the prices of their programs

[00:02:58.06]or what their offerings are,

[00:03:00.01]keep in mind that they’re probably fake.

[00:03:03.03]And one of the best ways for you

[00:03:04.08]to attract your audience,

[00:03:06.04]for you to build your audience,

[00:03:08.09]is to be real

[00:03:10.01]and to be authentic

[00:03:11.03]because like meets like.

[00:03:13.06]Like attracts like,

[00:03:14.09]like wants to buy from like,

[00:03:16.06]when the like that you want to buy from

[00:03:18.02]is slightly aspirational,

[00:03:19.04]has something to offer,

[00:03:20.04]gives you something else that
somebody else doesn’t have,

[00:03:23.00]and the way you do that is
being real on social media.

[00:03:25.09]It starts with your photo,

[00:03:27.01]takes one tenth of one second for someone

[00:03:29.03]to decide if they want
to listen to you or not.

[00:04:22.00]and you’ll see with how
what happens there in views.

[00:04:24.07]But I could tell you right now that

[00:04:28.00]I don’t have a lot of crap following me.

[00:04:31.03]and I’d rather have a
slower approach to doing it,

[00:04:34.05]than just getting people
up there for the numbers.

[00:04:37.07]I mean my Twitter is really big right now,

[00:04:39.05]but I’m like never on Twitter,

[00:04:41.00]but that was a very dedicated
grow back in the day.

[00:04:44.06]So if you’re on Instagram,

[00:04:46.01]or you’re on Facebook,

[00:04:47.02]or you’re trying to build your audience,

[00:04:49.04]if you’re really consistent
on bringing stuff to them,

[00:04:53.07]and you’re being real,

[00:04:54.07]you will find your people.

[00:04:55.07]A little advertising does help.

[00:04:57.08]Not gonna lie,

[00:04:58.08]a little advertising to
a super targeted audience

[00:05:01.07]will help you grow that much faster,

[00:05:03.08]and that’s how I found this out.
