The FocusOnStyle Blog
Helping You + Your Business Get Out There!

Make it your business to live your dream…

I inadvertently started my blog during my infant son’s nap time back in 1999… before the term ‘blog’ was even popular.

Through it all, I believe…

Your style is your fingerprint in all that you do… it’s how you see the world + how the world perceives you.

The blog archives go back to the beginning and are updated regularly.  You’ll find 1,000’s of posts about modern business, branding, positioning, marketing, photos, fashion, style, beauty, lifestyle… and most importantly, how to do anything authentically. Enjoy!

Nina Ricci Spring 2014: What It’s Like To Attend A Fashion Show During Paris Fashion Week

I don't think there's anyone who loves a GOOD invitation as much as Richard does! Add a great fashion name and he can't be beat...  Well, if food was involved, he'd secretly love it even more. My friend, the NY expat & Paris insider tells us what it's like to attend a fashion show during Paris Fashion Week, particularly the Nina Ricci Spring 2014 collection. Trust us, the Spring 2014 collection is simply divine, and Richard's got the close-up's to back that up!-- S.H. My handwrttien, personal invitation- (la-di-da!) Suddenly last week, I found myself invited to three fashions shows during Spring 2014 Fashion Week in Paris. My first invitation was for Nina Ricci in a tent at the Tuileries near Place de la Concorde,

Why Dita Von Teese makes you feel beautiful to be a woman

Hubby and I dragged ourselves out of our head cold blues (the couple that hacks together, stays together) and trotted off to see Dita Von Teese perform "Burlesque Strip Strip Hooray!" at the Gramercy Theater in NYC last night. LOVED it. So much fun, glamour, camp, and theatrical majesty... like being in Vegas without the schmaltz (big smile). At 41, Dita is gorgeous and unstoppable.   Dita Von Teese may have one of the most enviable figures but the review isn't about cookie-cutter body perfection. "Strip Strip Hooray" could also be called "I Am Woman" as the cast of performers celebrate female beauty in every shape, size, age, and then some with Perle Noire, Selene Luna, Natasha Estrada, and Lada Nikolska of the Crazy

Chloe Spring 2014 Chloe Spring 2014 made for a remarkable collection rife with classic, ultra girly propositions with a grown up senisbility Opening with an array of soothing desert tones, the Chloe girl for Spring 2014 was clearly in a calm, collected state of mind, save for the Parisian label's signature insouciant femininity. >>DISCOVER: The Top 4 Trends from Milan Fashion Week Spring 2014 Designer Claire Wright Kellar put an emphasis on meticulous draping in matte desert khakis, golden hues and rich Persian azures in silk cloque and crushed plisse. Le Classic White Shirt: C’est French chic street style that you can wear from Paris Fashion Week

French Chic white shirts
French Chic white shirts I'll Have What She's Having:  A classic French Chic white shirt that's just a touch special I'd like to think of this as a palette cleanse from all the too-too of Fashion Week. Something so simple, so easy, that you may even have in your closet. I just love the simplicity of her look. The rolled sleeves, crimson lips, undone hair, and THOSE pants! So effortlessly chic. You can dress IT up, wear it to tone down something very bold, make it girly yet chic, or wear it with tuxedo flourish to a modern pantsuit. But, don't think that this kind of off-handed style is NOT strategic. The effortlessness of this very laid back classic style

Milan Fashion Week: The Yin & Yang of feminine minimalism from Marni and Emporio Armani Spring 2014

Marni Spring 2014 A fashion lession in pairing down to what counts! Proof, that feminine minimalism does not have to be cookie cutter. Take a look at the art of the simple flourish at both Marni and Emporio Armani during Milan Fashion Week. Rememeber, that 90s theme of pairing down your look to the most basic yet style heavy pieces? Baby, it's back… with a brand new twist. Minimalism, like many of the reintroduced trends on the runways of late, often needs a rethinking to make it look fresh, and most importantly, less clinical than in seasons past. And from Milan, two distinctly different labels just so happened to add a practical sense of giddy, feminine touches to looks that were undoubtedly

Best Emmy Style: Red Carpet fashion with lessons that make sense for your wardrobe (really)

I'll Have What She's Having: The best Emmy style of clean chic red carpet stunners You know that I'm generally not jacked up about red carpet fashion. Too often, it's overdone celebrities wearing costumes that look like they were stolen from a five-year old's fantasy dress up closet. OK, lucky for them that their stylist secured that fancy free dress for the night, but what does that have to do with YOU? There was some of that schmaltz at tonight's 65th Emmy Awards, for sure. But, I'll ignore that. What I don't ignore are the few women who opted for stellar chic and clean lines that didn't wear them. Stunning numbers that stood out in a sea of too much. And isn't
