London Fashion Week: Mark Fast Fashion Show Review

Mark Fast Catwalk - Fall / Winter 2009 … Body-con knitted dresses in shades of black, orange and dusky pink gave a sexy, rebellious feel to Mark Fast's sizzling second runway collection at London Fashion Week. >> See our complete runway coverage and fashion show photos As a winner of Topshop's New Generation award, Mark Fast presented another collection of tiny knitted dresses with intricate detailing and embellishment. Ladder stitches allowed flesh to be exposed, while giving a cobweb feel to the dresses and the length of the hem worked to the advantage of the leggy models. Knitwear this sexy is unthinkable and for day-wear you'd definitely have to team the dresses with leggings or trousers, but for evening-wear the

London Fashion Week: Emilio De La Morena Fashion Show Review

Emilio De La Morena Catwalk - Fall / Winter 2009 … Bold shapes and structured collars mixed with Emilio Morena's signature body-con aesthetic gave a futuristic feel to the collection. Primary shades of canary yellow and pillar-box red were mixed with a touch of navy, fuchsia and brown to create a colourful fall 09 fashion show for the London Fashion Week collection. With the focus on the upper section of the body, built-up, fluted collars and boxy and exaggerated shoulders were used to give an eighties feel, with an ultramodern twist. Hounds tooth and striped prints took attention away from the structure of the cropped jackets and beading down the centre of the dresses worked to lengthen the silhouette. Stretch

London Fashion Week: Ashish Fashion Show Review

Ashish Catwalk - Fall / Winter 2009 … A colour explosion of neon animal print clashed with Christmas prints, covered in translucent sequins with a circus theme, is what made up the Ashish fashion show for London Fashion Week at the Hippodrome Theatre in Leicester Square. Determined not to succumb to the winter's depressing mood, Ashish opted for the jubilant and loud shades of neon pink, blue, yellow, orange and green. Trousers with pom-pom detailing contributed to the outrageous look.   >> See our complete runway coverage and fashion show photos Prints of all varieties were included, ranging from zebra, tiger and leopard to the USA's Stars and Stripes, to traditional Christmas reindeer and snowflake prints. Most pieces were covered

London Fashion Week: Bernard Chandran Fashion Show Review

Bernard Chandran Catwalk - Fall / Winter 2009 … London Fashion Week continues with dreamy printed sheer fabric and swinging teardrop beading mixed with prints inspired by the Far East, Bernard Chandran's latest collection offered a stormy version of a rainstorm. This diverse collection seems to be representative of the changeable behaviour of the weather. The colour palette ranged from the deep shades of black, navy, silver and gunmetal to warmer shades of lilac, pale blue and peach and finally, the fiery tones of crimson red. content continues below photo gallery >> See our complete runway coverage and fashion show photos Even the silhouette did not escape the influence of the weather, with the signature shape being that of the

London Fashion Week: Ioannis Dimitrousis Fashion Show Review

Ioannis Dimitrousis Catwalk - Fall / Winter 2009 … A mix of shimmering silk yarns and harsh metal detailing made for a stunning finished collection with a fetish feel for the Ioannis Dimitrousis Fall / Winter 2009 collection as shown during London Fashion Week. An autumnal colour palette of black, grey and deep red signalled a move away from last season's elaborate tones of gold, royal blue and orange, giving the Untitled' collection an edgier look. >> See our complete runway coverage and fashion show photos Ioannis's signature intricate crocheting is carried throughout the collection and is used to create body-con shapes. The use of swinging chains and needle detailing, along with the strict silhouette give the feeling of a restricted

NY Fashion Week: Joanna Mastroianni presentation review

Joanna Mastroianni Fall 2009 Collection… This was a very tight, high society eveningwear line not over looking a single detail and using stunning fabrications. I do love the hoop-la that goes along with the runway shows, but I must admit, these intimate presentations not only make you feel not just like number but you can see the construction, the fit, the fabric textures and all the hand sewn details up close and personal which gives a bigger appreciation. >> See our complete runway coverage and fashion show photos This line I felt could really suit a broad age range as well (which was aided of course by the 19-year old skinny models!) going from a young socialite off to a

NY Fashion Week: Thuy fashion show review

Thuy- Fall 2009 Collection, video below… Fashion is not always taken at face value. Sometimes you need to give it a bit of time and understand that taste is very subjective. I’m more of a realist than trendy fabulousista when it comes to flattering silhouettes. Ok, I won’t lie, my first impression of this collection was not a good one, but by the end of the show I acknowledged it means absolutely nothing if I personally don’t like it, but it means everything it I can look past my taste and see what has been created and the whether it has been created well. This line was indeed well made. My personal issue was that many of the pieces were

NY Fashion Week: William Rast fashion show review

William Rast | Runway Fall 2009 Collection-Mercedes Benz Fashion Week… Yet another designer going with the rock ‘n roll theme– this time via Justin Timberlake– but this so far has been my favorite interpretation. Yes we are feeling the 80’s, yes we are feeling the punk rock, but in addition we are feeling the grunge / hipster vibe which helps to tone it down a bit and gives a sort of all American look. First off the William Rast collection is 70% denim which I love! Denim with studs, denim with fringe, denim with black lace, black denim with zippers…..it’s never ending how it got all tricked up. But tricked up so it does not look ridiculous, nearly every piece

NY Fashion Week: Miss Sixty fashion show review

Miss Sixty | Runway Fall 2009 Collection-Mercedes Benz Fashion Week… Rock ‘n roll heavily weighted with an 80’s and punk feel set the tone for Miss Sixty. Denim washes had a huge range from classic blues to greys and black of course, but the washing techniques were far from average - some were heavily bleached, others were very stone washed giving an allover crinkle texture reminding you of your favorite pair of jeans in 1985, colored tints and resin washes, fortunately not so much of the shredding we are currently seeing everywhere. As far as denim styling, I personally was pleased to see the skinny jean still maintaining it’s power, especially with glam rock appliques and over-sized hardware. On the

NY Fashion Week: Lela Rose fashion show review

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week- Lela Rose, Fall 2009 Collection… Finally a show with color to keep our recession spirits up and remind women that party attire should indeed be fun. There is also a fantastic play of texture - chunky woven tweeds with a hint of metallic, shiny silks mixed with sequins, flowing silk chiffon as well as stiff and shiny satin. The shimmer caught everyone’s eye, nothing was flat and it allowed for a lot of movement when on the body. The ombre coloring had a modern romantic effect especially on the pieces that had ombre color stripes from sequins. NY Fashion Week: Luca Luca fashion show review

Luca Luca - - Fall 2009 fashion collection… The high society soiree hopping woman reigned supreme here recession or not. As always very feminine with the look of the silverscreen, refined and classy. Fitting the show would be held at the Plaza Hotel, the Luca Luca girl would only be seen in such a lobby. The hair and make up almost stole the show, I couldn’t keep my eyes of the models faces - just beautiful!! Fresh skin and wide eyes, matte red lipstick in the color of absolute love and matching nails but not matte, instead quite shiny. This woman is a heart breaker. (photo gallery below) Full body hair with big, soft curls cascading down the backs of

NY Fashion Week: Shelly Steffee fashion show review

Shelly Steffee - Fall 2009 fashion collection… A great mix of fabric textures and beautiful tailoring made for an impressive collection with a futuristic / equestrian feel. Well placed cut-outs to show off a woman’s decoltage, a beautifully draped jersey dress with braided fabric woven within the sweeping cowl, very well fit felt jacket with pleated latex shoulders and of course the of-the-moment peg shaped pant looking wearable on the mannequin - too bad that silhouette can be difficult for real people to pull off. (photo gallery below) Again, as almost all the fall collections the color range is predominantly blacks and greys, but the mixing of fabrics at least makes these colors beautiful, not so somber. There was a

LA Fashion Week: Lana Fuchs Runway Review, Spring 2008

A Couture Wonderland… The Lana Fuchs Couture fashion show was an opulent mash of party dresses, gowns, bold prints and colors, ruffles, fringe, and so much more! I do love, however, that they kept the make-up and hair minimal at best so that all the attention could be focused on the clothing. The hair was pulled away from the face, smooth but loosely set. A nude lip and cat eyes were all they needed to top it off.   There was a great little selection of printed dresses on the runway that I couldn’t get my mind off. My favorite was the sweetheart party dress (pictured) with a floral print that was suitable for dinner or dancing and can fit
