NY Fashion Week: Twinkle by Wenlan Spring / Summer 2010

Twinkle by Wenlan | Spring / Summer Fashion Show Summer 2010 Runway Review Excerpt: Twinkle's strongest looks were print-less frothy chiffon layered dresses and some surprisingly smart pants that also came in either watercolor florals or scattered digitals. While printed pants aren't usually the easiest to pull off, here thanks to her subtle prints, they seemed like a very strong, fresh option. When it first came on the scene Twinkle's Wenlan Chia was armed with some highly desirable tricks up her sleeve with her strengths being feminine knitwear with a sculptural edge, beaded and baubled necklaces at attainable price points and prints that are so graphic and complex they stand on their own (to me she's the states version of

NY Fashion Week: Yigal Azrouel Spring / Summer 2010

Yigal Azrouel | Fashion Show Spring / Summer 2010 Runway Review Excerpt: Yigal Azrouel did have his highly desirable outerwear on full display alongside some great contrasting cocktail frocks, some 80's sex-pot sliced swimwear and some 10+ menswear looks that were some of the strongest options for men New York has seen for quite some time. Yigal Azrouel is one New York designer I've been enthused about for years not only because his clothing is very well made for it's semi-modest price points, but also because it's never overtly trendy, his pieces always have a quiet urban appeal that stand on their own. >> See our complete runway coverage and fashion show photos Unfortunately this time around for Spring/Summer 2010

NY Fashion Week: Cynthia Steffe Spring / Summer 2010

Cynthia Steffe | Spring / Summer Runway Summer 2010 Runway Review Excerpt: We can't forget that when this collection hits stores, it's sure to be a crowd pleaser that's been tweaked to offer something for absolutely everyone. #NYFW Cynthia Steefe is one of those sportswear labels that quickly rose to prominence during the earlier part of this decade only to be fizzled out by some serious in-house design changes before the company was able to make its signature clear and concise and most importantly strong. This left new designer Shaun Kearny wandering between disparate notions of where to lead the successful line. His Spring/Summer 2010 outing for Cynthia Steffe was to me, not only one his, but one of the

NY Fashion Week: BCBG Spring / Summer 2010

BCBG | Spring / Summer Runway Summer 2010 Runway Review Excerpt: Sometimes you don't always need a new proposition and there's nothing wrong with knowing what works and sticking to it and Max & Lubov Azria used this to their full advantage. BCBG has come a long, long way since it's humble inception in the early 90's and I fondly remember back in the day, about 7th grade to be exact, that when it first hit the states it was the label to get your hands on, especially since it was so elusive at the time. While that may not be the case anymore, you have to think that if BCBG has done anything, it has completely eclipsed major department

NY Fashion Week: Ports 1961 fashion show review

PORTS 1961| Runway Fall 2009 Collection-Mercedes Benz Fashion Week… Inspired by exotic India the Ports 1961 fall 2009 collection was beaming with rich color, luxe fabrications, metallics and attention to the tiny details in accessories and overall construction. The fashion show theme was set on the runway with a delightful live band playing lively middle eastern music while the models walked. The models’ eyes were lined with dark kohl pencil and their hair was tied in a very tousled, romantic braid - this overall setting created a warm and exotic mood, taken away to India! >> See our complete runway coverage and fashion show photos The clothing was had a modern take on tradition with some of the cuts, the

NY Fashion Week: Chado Ralph Rucci fashion show review

CHADO RALPH RUCCI | Runway Fall 2009 Collection-Mercedes Benz Fashion Week… It was like being in an Asia-inspired Blade Runner! Uber futuristic, very slick, the show could have been an action movie, heavily structured garments and lots of technical cut outs, very dark, mostly black, but behind it all was this calming Zen aura that softened the collection. Once again we are seeing solid fabrics but with amazing texture and pattern within. Some of these fabrics I swear were brought back from 2020, they were very high tech looking and again the ultra mod look strengthened that. (See Alix’s photo gallery of the fashion show below) >> We’ve been loving this collection for awhile; please see our past Chado Ralph

NY Fashion Week: Zac Posen fashion show review

ZAC POSEN | Runway Fall 2009 Collection-Mercedes Benz Fashion Week… This was the most stunning production I have laid eyes on all Fashion Week and in general, one of the most classically beautiful shows I have ever seen!!! The scene is this: dark runway with 5 grand pianos lined up down the center, spotlights shine on 5 women and men, dressed gowns straight out of Amadeus, as they walk to their pianos and begin to play, their own part, together as a whole, the lights slowly spread as the first model appears in a gown circa 1770… but in fact it is 2009. Immediately you are transported in time watching each piece come out - rich brocade fabrics and satins,

NY Fashion Week: Rebecca Taylor fashion show review

REBECCA TAYLOR | Runway Fall 2009 Collection-Mercedes Benz Fashion Week… A warm colored presentation of feminine pieces mixed with some edge and balanced with an air of innocence best describes the Rebecca Taylor fashion show for fall 2009. I picture these pieces on a cute, mousy girl at an art gallery opening sipping red wine, a little bit quirky, very creative and intuitive, she stares at the art with question but really she is wondering why Wendy ever left Neverland. >> More Mercedes Benz Fashion Week photos of the Rebecca Taylor fashion show The soft, warm colors are a nice relief after a lot of black and grey and they are matched with blue tights or socks and smudged blue

NY Fashion Week: Custo Barcelona fashion show review

CUSTO BARCELONA | Runway Fall 2009 Collection-Mercedes Benz Fashion Week… Love Custo!!! I realize Custo Barcelona clothing may come off as ridiculous to some, it makes no sense, but that is what is to love about it!!! Wild patterns, a million colors all at once, texture mixing and playing no where near the rule book - fashion on acid - doesn’t that sound amazing?! >> More Mercedes Benz Fashion Week photos of the Custo Barcelona fashion show   There was a lot of shine - very hairy, sparkly fabrics, sequins and beading, metallic brocades, shiny satin and once again this beaded strand material similar to what I saw at Thuy. It was fabric upon fabric upon fabric to create tons

London Fashion Week: Mary Katrantzou Fashion Show Review

Mary Katrantzou Catwalk - Fall / Winter 2009 … Bold graphic prints of perfume bottles in vivid colours printed onto silk fabric made up Mary Katrantzou's debut catwalk collection during London Fashion Week. >> See our complete runway coverage and fashion show photos Showing at 9am, a sleepy-eyed fashion crowd were soon awoken by the vast array of flattering shift dresses and fluted skirts as well as skinny trouser shapes in shades of orange, blue, peach and gold. The collection, inspired by Coco Chanel's opinion: "A woman who doesn't wear perfume has no future", used the printed shape of a perfume bottle to flatter the body, by accentuating an hourglass figure and coaxing the eye into believing the waist to

London Fashion Week: Osman Yousefzada Fashion Show Review

London Fashion Week: Ashley Isham Fashion Show Review

Ashley Isham Catwalk - Fall / Winter 2009 … A collection of draped gowns, skirt-suits and structured dresses in a vast spectrum of colours mixed 1940’s elegance with the glamour of the 1980’s in Ashley Isham's Fall/Winter 09 collection fashion show at London Fashion Week. A mixture of textures including satin, chiffon, jersey and organza were draped around the body in shades of gold, navy, magenta and emerald green.
