Here’s why this is so important…
Entrepreneurs are in crisis.
Women of a certain age are in crisis.
The market is getting saturated and it is all too easy to get buried in the herd.
What you could once get by with is now not only no longer serving you but actually holding you back. If you don’t continue to evolve, to be flexible, to be relevant, to be the best at being you, you will get lost in the noise.
I’m assuming that you don’t wake up and say, “How mediocre can I be today?”
You deserve to live fully so you can truly live life to the fullest rather than just getting by.
You can always raise the bar.
You can always elevate your ambition.
No matter what, please promise to surround yourself with others with a different viewpoint, with a different expertise, who have accomplished more in certain areas so that you can raise your game, so that you can challenge yourself to grow in every way.
It’s time to tune in…

[00:00:02] Hello, hello, hello Chicsters, welcome to very special episode of the 7 Days to Amazing Podcast. I am Sharon Haver and I am truly amazed! This is the one year anniversary of the podcast. Can you believe it? Can you believe we have been on for one year? I’m just I’m amazed, I’m thrilled, I’m so excited to bring you this episode. And to help you just really just get out there in every which way and best way that you can.
[00:00:40] So for those of you who really don’t know me or are new to me right now or maybe you need a quick refresher, I really love helping women entrepreneurs step into their star power so that they can fully reach their potential to soar through their life, through their business, their personal development, their style, and everything that is their beauty.
[00:01:03] I created the 7 Days to Amazing Podcast because I started seeing a sore spot. I started seeing women who were missing something, who were very heavy on one end and just had a deficit in the other, who weren’t living fully, who really needed that extra push, that extra assist, that nudge to come into their own.read more
[00:01:30] I know in my life there are times where I am so heavy into one side of one facet of my business, or one little strategy, or tactic, or change, or rebrand, or something that maybe another area will take a second step, fall behind, go in the shadows.
[00:01:51] But when I feel it coming I know that I need to just sort of kick it up and keep myself open and aware. With me, my style is just as important to me as the SEO on my website to a new pair of shoes. As to our strategy it’s all together and you know maybe it’s because when I grew up my mother was kind of a newspaper junkie. She read about seven papers a day. There was the New York Times, The New York Post, the Daily News, Women’s Wear Daily, The Wall Street Journal, whatever it was, local weekly papers, Newsday, whatever newspapers were around. She looked at Women’s Wear Daily as much as she read The Wall Street Journal, as much as she read the gossip columns in The New York Post on Page Six. So it was a very even way of just seeing the world. And for me, it’s just you can’t be great at one thing and be horrific at something else. Well, it’s part of your life or your business.
[00:02:57] Of course there’s things we’re better at. Everyone is better at stuff. Some people are just even you know more interested in stuff.
[00:03:03] But when it’s something that helps you succeed you need to at least be aware to have role models. And that’s what this episode is about.
[00:03:13] It’s just I want you to understand that there are so many different ways to find role models to inspire you to live fully so that you can get unstuck from what’s holding you back and really be the best at being you.
[00:03:27] We’re at a time right now where entrepreneurs are in crisis.
[00:03:31] Women of a certain age are in crisis. Nod, nod, wink-wink, I’m in that group too.
[00:03:37] And it’s the market that is just getting so saturated, it is too easy to get buried in the herd.
[00:03:43] Well, when I started focus on style back in 1999, I was an Internet entrepreneur innovator. People didn’t have Web sites the word blog wasn’t even in existence. It was brave new territory. It was an extension of my 15 years of being a stylist, my several years of having a syndicated newspaper column to 400 papers.
[00:04:05] It was a new ground, a new brave thing. I never thought that I would actually figure out code let alone SEO.
[00:04:13] Oh, I mean I’m the girl who hated math, I hated micro-economics, I hated stat, I hated anything with numbers and calculations, and I swear, if there’s such a thing as being like spatially dyslexic… you should see me back up a car. There are just certain things that I’m not great at.
[00:04:33] And because it was my business and it became my business.
[00:04:37] There are things that I just looked at as challenges that I wanted to conquer, that I wanted to own, that I wanted to just master. And I did it without thinking, I was just, you know it was Google as this wonderful tool if you don’t know how to do something, you can look it up and get a really basic way of understanding of it. But if you want mastery, truly mastery in something, you need to spend the time invest yourself, invest in that knowledge.
[00:05:09] So there’s a time in our life when I start to see women, especially women, men also but more women online. I look at something as simply as my Facebook feed, and I have my New York friends, my coastal friends, my style friends, my fashion industry friends, my journalist friends, and then I have a whole bunch of women entrepreneur friends, and there’s the moms, and my old friends, my new friends, and what I see is as I go through friends, who I love for themselves and for different reasons, and noticing that there’s a disparity.
[00:05:43] A disparity in maybe women who are entrepreneurs who were now the face of their brand, who are now standing up out there and representing themselves because it’s a new business for them. They don’t have the branding, don’t have the star power, don’t have the style, the charisma, the pizazz, the brand personality, whatever it is, of someone who maybe, they know how to do that. And that extra charisma and pizzazz and sparkle and uniqueness that has them standing out in the crowd is so easy to them, but they don’t know how to run their business. They can’t figure it out because they don’t know it. So there was this very uneven shift, you know think about it you know one of those old fashion scales, and one side was really down and one side was really up.
[00:06:27] Or like a seesaw if you want, or a teeter-totter. So anyway, I realized that, and I realize that a lot of people were just not opening their eyes in a way to other things, not having that challenge, that spunk.
[00:06:48] You know maybe just listen to stuff that you didn’t know you even didn’t know about. Right? Because sometimes you don’t know what you don’t know.
[00:06:56] So I thought, wouldn’t it be interesting if I created a way, a salon, a living room of my friends and my colleagues and people that I wanted to learn from as well, all who had a very specific expertise and they can bring it all together to help you really be amazing in your life, business, and style.
[00:07:19] Every week, you can get takeaway points, you can get something, a million dollar education to just be the best at being you. And I know, especially online, it’s this really creepy thing that’s going on. There’s so many people who profess, “I’m going to be a million dollar business coach,” “I’m going to give what it takes to learn how to have a million dollar business.” And then you see them. First of all, some of them, you know they can’t even pay their bills, and other ones you see and they’re living this like lousy life because now we’re all on stage, and we do videos, when we do headshot, when we do everything, in they’re living this very unbelievable life to what they profess. And there’s a lot of other people who are like, “I have made $40000 in the last two days and I was born yesterday. And I did this one course and I learned everything.? It’s a lot of bullshit.
[00:08:09] There’s just so much crap out online and people fall prey to it. They want the quick fix, the one thing, the get rich quick scheme which is just a lot of junk, it’s a lot of malarkey. And then there’s other people who have created a strategy and a plan for their business.
[00:08:25] and you wonder how are they an overnight success? You know, like it wasn’t an overnight, or overnight success that was 10 years in the making. So
[00:08:35] people just get confused and they ignore things. It’s OK to ignore stuff. I have no interest in baseball or softball. No interest in that kind of stuff. So if one of my friends is carrying on about the Yankees or some baseball game on my feed, I don’t see it. I don’t hear it. I’m oblivious to it because it doesn’t matter if I like baseball or not. It doesn’t help my business, doesn’t help my lifestyle, doesn’t help with anything about me, it doesn’t make a difference.
[00:09:04] But if there’s something that does help you, that can help you, it’s in your own best interest to be interested in it.
[00:09:12] So if it’s how you present yourself, if it’s how you position yourself, if it’s how you can be more productive, if it’s how you can just find joy or inspiration, or whatever it is, it’s in your best interest to not tune it out because you’re hurting yourself.
[00:09:29] And we’re at a point right now where you can’t get by with it. If it’s just no longer serving you, it’s actually holding you back.
[00:09:37] So if you don’t continue to evolve, to be flexible, to be relevant, to be the best at being you, you will get lost in the noise.
[00:09:46] I promise you you will get lost.
[00:09:50] So I’m assuming that you don’t want to wake up and say, “how mediocre can I be today?” Like how beige can I be in this world so that no one will see me.
[00:10:00] I mean how could I just sit here and spin my wheels like a hamster and have as much– or as little– pizzazz as Roseanne’s couch. Remember “Roseanne’s” couch or her sitcom? It was like could her living room be more boring? Could it be more blah? And that was kind of the character’s lifestyle that she portrayed.
[00:10:20] And it’s just, do you wake up one day saying, how can I be mediocre? I don’t think so. Right.
[00:10:28] You wake up saying, I want to have a great day. I want to have joy today. I want to have success. I’m going to have fulfillment. I want to be in touch with who I am, I want to have more time for myself, for my family, to make the money to have the stability of the income to do what I choose rather than suffering.
[00:10:46] I want to work but I don’t want to work stupidly. I don’t want to work hard. I want to work so I can have that fuel my life.
[00:10:55] And you should because you deserve to live fully so that you can truly live your life to the fullest rather than just getting by.
[00:11:07] Because living fully is excelling in every way.
[00:11:11] It’s not about piecing it all together. It’s not about obsessing about one tactic and ignoring the rest.
[00:11:17] It’s a full life Rich with everything that makes you amazing in your life, and your business, and in your style. One area, just one area cannot thrive unless all areas co-exist in harmony.
[00:11:34] It has to have a holistic approach.
[00:11:36] And that is exactly, exactly why I created the 7 Days to Amazing Podcast so that you can have role models to inspire you in every area, so that you can have takeaways and a few suggestions every week to grow, to excel, to have that aha moment that catapults you beyond your dreams, so that you can live the life that others dream about. And that you could live the life that you dream about.
[00:12:05] And with all that I cannot believe that this is the first anniversary of the podcast.
[00:12:11] What I want to do right now is just tell you that something super special, that if you are listening right now, and as soon this is live you can do.
[00:12:22] I’m creating a contest. What I want you to do is tell me who are your top three guests on the podcast? There’s about 28 of them so far.
[00:12:32] What are your biggest takeaways?
[00:12:34] With that, if you go and you comment on each podcast post, and tell me right on the 7 Days to Amazing page on FocusOnStyle.com.
[00:12:44] So you got to FocusOnStyle.com/1yearanniversary . That’s the number one, 1 year anniversary.
[00:12:53] You will be find an entry form right there.
[00:12:56] And in the next week, seven days, until the next episode, you will be able to just tell me who your three favorite guests are and your three biggest takeaways from that episode.
[00:13:03] Brownie points for subscribing and downloading on iTunes.
[00:13:10] Guys, we can use your friendship over there too on iTunes. You can also download all the episodes, listen as you go at the gym, on your way to work, whatever it is. It’s just a handy way of catching up with all the episodes when you listen to them all roll into each other, you can hear everything, and sort of binge out, or just go and FocusOnStyle where there are extra resources for each guest. Where you’re able to not only get social media memes, and thoughts and highlights, but you get transcripts too, and guests who provide goodies and gifts and items they talk about, you get the helpful links to get to it.
[00:13:46] So I’ve made it all easy for you. And what I want you to do right now before we go further on this, before we talk about the different guests and all the wonderful tidbits they brought to help you elevate your life.
[00:13:57] I want you to be able to know that on this page for the next week, if you go to FocusOnStyle.com/1yearanniversary, that’s the number 1, one year anniversary, you will be able to enter to win a $500 prize, you’ll be able to enter to win a $500 dollar prize.
[00:14:14] And I think that is just fantastic. It’s my gift to you. I want you to help me celebrate.
[00:14:18] And I want to celebrate you for being for being a regular listener and a regular reader on FocusOnStyle, or on the Insider’s list. So I want to thank you.
[00:14:29] And with that I have the gift. I hope you take me up on that.
[00:14:35] But here’s something that I want you to really take yourself up on. I want you to understand the importance of each guest. I want to roll through this again so that you see you know we’ve all learned and grown from my specially curated guests.
[00:14:52] Each episode offers something new, something brilliant that complements the others because as I said before, a well-lived life is a sum of its parts.
[00:15:01] Each guest is a role model to inspire you to elevate that certain aspect of their expertise into your life.
[00:15:09] Now maybe I have a little bit of Steve Rubell Studio 54 in me where I only let certain people into my podcast world and not others. I only want to elevate people who compliment each other, who offer something different, to not getting the same information week after week on one topic.
[00:15:27] You’re getting a holistic, organic way of looking at your life. I think it’s a little novel that way because some people are quite willing to hear about fashion.
[00:15:39] Well you know, we got you covered in fashion. We have Carson Kressley and Joan Juliet Buck, the former editor in chief of Paris Vogue.
[00:15:47] And some people think well we only want business.
[00:15:49] I got you covered in business. We have Karen Yankovich helping you get your social media out there.
[00:15:55] She’s one of the leading social media people out there and we have people like Hillary Eldridge. Hillary Phelps Eldridge who’s one of the most wonderful public relations people out there.
[00:16:09] As well as we have Marie-Laure Fournier who teaches you how to start your own public relations business.. she came to New York from Paris and went from dancing on the tables to being one of the most go-to PR agencies for beauty brands.
[00:16:21] And there are so many different ways.
[00:16:22] What about when you say I can’t. I don’t know how to interview someone, or how to talk to people. We’ve got Debbie Nigro, who is one of the most sought after, longest lasting radio talk show hosts out there to tell you how to interview like a talk show host.
[00:16:37] Or if you’re not sure of yourself, you don’t know, you think you’re not good enough, we have Dr. Valerie Young talking about the imposter syndrome.
[00:16:44] You don’t know how a brand yourself? No problem. Jena Rodriquez is out there telling you how to develop your true brand.
[00:16:51] And maybe you’re like I don’t know, I need a little push. How can I climb to the higher side? How can I do something? Well, we’ve got Alison Levine who is not only an adventure but she’s climbed the seven summits, seven freaking summits, and she still loves to talk about fashion and leadership and style. And how important it is and how great she feels when she’s onstage, and how what she’s wearing affects how she’s speaking.
[00:17:16] Well, what about those French girls who get it all to look so easy. Right. Those French chicks who no matter what they do, they know how to put it on… well, from chicks to chic. We’ve got my friend Richard Nahem telling you how to live like a Parisienne whereever you are.
[00:17:30] And if that’s good enough for you, if you don’t want to know which way to open your door, close your door, how to put something down. No problem. Kathryn Weber of Red Lotus Letter is helping you with feng shui tips.
[00:17:41] How about if you are thinking that you are looking a little tired.
[00:17:46] Need a little pick me up.
[00:17:47] Either you’re afraid of getting too pulled, too tight, too weird, too creepy… but you want some tips on advanced beauty. On how you can look effervescent and gorgeous and still look like you. Don’t worry. Dr. Stephen Bracci is teaching you advanced beauty ways that you can look younger, better, just like you. He’s the best.
[00:18:10] And you know, you don’t know how to do that. You’ve got problems with your money. You can’t figure out which end is up, which end is down, what are you holding on to that you should let go. LoriAnne Reeves is a money expert and a business strategist to teach you how to rewrite your money story.
[00:18:24] Is that bumming you out? Can you not figure out what to do with that? Don’t worry.
[00:18:28] You want to be happy. Jackie Ruka is teaching you how to get happy. She is America’s Happyologist.
[00:18:35] So you want to talk about Couture. Like what about all that beautiful couture for inspiration. No problem. Elyssa Dimant is teaching you about the New French Couture and icons of French fashion… and how to incorporate that into your everyday life.
[00:18:51] And again, I told you that if you want to know how to have a well styled life that is beautiful and fun, Joan Juliet Buck, the former editor of Vogue Paris, teaches you how to live a well lived life on any budget. And her crazy harem pants that make her look so cool.
[00:19:07] But what about your house and your website your video set? When you do your next Facebook Live, your video, when you’re doing your head shots and you don’t know how to put everything behind you to look good. It’s just like you have that great shot of you. But there’s a plant growing at your head in the photo! Maybe you want to have a place that really does look like a million dollar listing, and you’re really living in a thousand dollar a month flat. No problem.
[00:19:30] Make your house look worthy of a million dollar listing with home staging secrets from Tori Toth. She is great and fun and teaches you all sorts of way to look like you’re living a life on your terms, your way, on your budget.
[00:19:45] And then what about reinventing yourself? You don’t know if something is right for you. Can you possibly do it? Well, imagine going from red carpet to reinvention, from being a rock star wife to a celebrity chef to teaching people how to cook every day. My friend Julianne Rhodes is here talking about the razzle-dazzle, the bumps in between, and how she became a successful entrepreneur on her own that had nothing to do with being married to Nick Rhodes of Duran Duran or being a supermodel. It’s what she did on her own.
[00:20:18] And you also want to know how to do stuff on your own. Don’t worry. We got you covered with Tonya Leigh who teaches you effortless elegance to have a French Kissed Life. Tonya went from growing up in a trailer to having this joie de vivre, this French chic style. She’s a master life coach that can help you figure it all out.
[00:20:37] And if you don’t think you could figure it out you need a little magic in your life, marketing magic from Rob Fortier teaching how to not succumb to marketing overwhelm and get a little pizzazz in what you’re doing.
[00:20:49] And what about beauty? You don’t know which way is up with beauty, and want a classic beauty look. How does it go in the history of makeup, what does it mean, and what does it say about you? Gabriella Hernandez is helping you out on that.
[00:21:01] It’s not bad people, right? Am I not. Let me take a little breath here. Have you absorbed all of this? If not, all you need to do is listen to this stuff… is all free. I’m not, there’s no opt ins to get this information, it’s not hiding behind any red curtains or red velvet ropes, or anything. These are all amazing guests freely sharing their story and their expertise for you to benefit from.
[00:21:20] I’m here for you on the podcast, you just have to listen. It’s so easy, you just have to listen, take a deep breath, absorb it all.
[00:21:32] And what about all this time that you’re ready to shine but you don’t know how to become a recognized expert. And you want to expand your network. Don’t you worry. We’ve got Dorie Clark. She’s a speaker, author, and a leading academic on becoming a recognized expert. She is here to teach you how to expand your network and just a super smart woman and a fantastic interview that you really don’t want to miss.
[00:22:02] Now you’ve got all this stuff, you want to build a community, and you just can’t figure out how. Well, we’ve got Leadership Girl Haley Lynn Gray there to teach you how she built a successful Facebook community of over 60,000 women strong.
[00:22:16] And then, you’re sitting home and you’re like no one sees me, I don’t know what I’m wearing, I feel like I might as well write a book. I feel like an author in my little Bat Cave, I never come out. Who but what about what authors wear when they’re on their own? What about their personal style and how their look evolves with their writing? Even though they’re living in a world where no one sees them. Most of these writers, write manuscripts by hand, and no one sees them, they’re not going out anywhere but they have a style that is so distinctive, that is so them, that is the essence and the fiber of their being. Well, you’ll learn the personal style of Legendary Authors and the Clothes They Wore with Terry Newman. It is a really fascinating episode.
[00:22:58] And you want to learn how to build connections and get your social house in order. No problem. We got Karen Yankovich right here helping you with that so you can build your network. She’s come from the East Coast too and she’s like a mile a minute full of information. There’s just so many takeaways.
[00:23:14] If you’re feeling like you can’t bridge the gap, you don’t know how those millennials are doing it, you’re feeling just too old, you don’t know where to start over. Well, hey, the last week’s Bridging The Gap episode where age is just a number with personal style blogger Laura Jansen is right there to help you go out there and figure it out.
[00:23:34] And if you don’t know what’s going on and you want to find out what is wrong with that.
[00:23:40] I’ve got my speaking coach, the pitbull of personal development, best selling author, television personality, social commentator and internationally acclaimed speaker Larry Winget. Larry will teach you what is wrong with damn near everything, your core values. And if you really want to learn from a pro on how to speak in soundbites, how to just give those nuggets, how to have a concise interview, just listen to this episode if even just for Larry’s speaking style. You will pick up so much on what is being media savvy.
[00:24:16] I think those are all the guests we have right now I’m taking another look to see if I didn’t miss anyone.
[00:24:21] I think we’re good. I really think we’re good. So are you good? Have you been listening to this because if you look at this, all of these episodes coming together, really, absolutely help you be the best at being you, make your life more amazing this week.
[00:24:41] And I don’t want you to short change yourself. I don’t want you to say that I don’t want to listen to Larry Winget because I want to listen to Tonya Leigh, I don’t want to listen to Carson Kressley because I want to listen to Dorie Clark, you should listen to everyone.
[00:24:56] Everyone’s opinion, just like all those newspapers my mother read that I grew up reading because you can only form your best opinions, you could only form your best knowledge, you can only be beautifully whole and excel if you just listen and learn something new.
[00:25:15] It’s amazing, right? Simply by learning something new. It’s unbelievable.
[00:25:22] You know you can always raise the bar. You can always elevate your ambition no matter what.
[00:25:28] Just please, please promise to surround yourself with others with a different point of view, with different expertise who have accomplished more in certain areas so that you can raise your game, so that you can challenge yourself to grow in every way.
[00:25:45] So I hope you enjoy this episode. I hope you please tune in to all the ones you may have missed. Catch up on them.
[00:25:52] We’ve got some really exciting things coming up in the next few weeks. Future guests here who you are not going to want to miss.
[00:25:59] I am just I’m so honored and thrilled at the breadth of guests that come on the 7 Days to Amazing Podcast who give wholly and fully of themselves to share their expertise with you. Please take them up on their generosity of knowledge.
[00:26:16] And just make it your effort to be the best at being you.
[00:26:23] In every episode, I want you to do three things in the next week. So first, I want you to go through the past episodes and find your three favorite episodes and comment on those pages so I know, everyone else knows, what your biggest takeaway was.
[00:26:40] Then go back to the FocusOnStyle.com/1yearanniversary page and tell me where you commented, enter the contest to win a $500 gift from me to celebrate the one year anniversary, to celebrate you.
[00:26:58] Let me celebrate you with a gift.
[00:27:00] And then, what I want you to do is just promise yourself that no matter what you will never be happy with mediocre You will never be happy with being lost in the crowd.
[00:27:15] Then write down what you will do this week, what part of your life you want to learn more about.
[00:27:23] If you want to excel, that you can just be better and take the time, also to just see where you’re a little topsy turvy, a little tipsy, where you’re a little high and where you a little low that you can come in and just elevate yourself.
[00:27:41] Elevate yourself in a way that you can just soar, where life is easier, that you have the riches to do what you want to do, to share with your family, your friends, your lifestyle, to not live a life of “would of, could of and should of,” to not be left in the dark. Lost in the crowd. No one wants to do that, right?
[00:28:03] And thirdly, I want you to celebrate how you can be the best at being you no matter what it is.. buy yourself flowers this week, take yourself out to dinner, donate money to that charity you keep thinking about. Get someone a special something, whatever it is. Take a break.
[00:28:21] You know sometimes we get so bogged down in work, just setting the alarm to go out for a good 20 minute, half hour walk to someplace new, to a new neighborhood, to take in something different. Whatever it is. Spend time with yourself, on yourself this week to celebrate what matters most to you.
