12 Signs of Becoming A Confident Woman
Do confident women have some insider secret above the rest? After all, we’re all doing the best we can every day but what makes some women more confident than others?
When it comes to standing out in your business niche, pulling off a certain outfit, or even making massive life goals, some women seem to have all the confidence in the world while others are too timid to barely dip their toes into their dreams.
So what makes confident women tick?
How can some women be more confident than others?
Is lack of confidence holding you back from achieving your goals.
Let’s explore what makes a woman confident from my personal lens.
We pretty much believe that feeling good about yourself inherently boosts you confidence. Yet a recent study by SWNS Digital shows that “in the workplace, 36 percent are comfortable speaking up in a meeting while another 35 percent were confident enough to follow their passions – wherever they might lead.” That’s staggering!
I know that I wasn’t born confident… that’s for sure. I started out second guessing myself, being extremely shy, and preferring to be behind the scenes. Back when I was a fashion stylist, there was always someone (mostly models) taller, prettier, skinnier, more successful than me and it really fed my self-esteem issues. I let my sharp tongue and quick wit make up for lack of confidence and wore the clothes that made me feel more empowered.
Then I started to watch how celebrities would walk onto a set and be rather normal… until they turned “IT” on for the camera and stepped into their starpower. It made me realize that true confidence is like money in the bank.
We all have our own magic exilir inside of us but confident women really understand its magic.
1. The one secret that a confident woman has which shines above the rest is certainty.
For that moment or for that endeavor, confident women are certain in what they will do and how they will do it… even if it’s by the seat of their pants. Certainty is what fuels confidence. Certainty comes from making a decision, committing to to it and having the confidence to pull it off.
2. Confident women do the work to make it effortless.
Grown-up confident women don’t wake up one day and put up a shingle for their new fangled “dream job.” When newbies try to fake it until they make it, more times than not, you can sniff out those wannabes from the really be. That’s because…
3. A confident woman knows how to use her expertise and pivot.
If you’re afraid of change, change will never happen. At a certain age, our life and professional experience makes us all multi-dimensional. Call it rebranding or reinvention, a confident woman knows that the expertise you have can shift to what brings joy.
I was never uncertain when I switched my focus from more fashion and beauty to branding and marketing. It’s the business side of branding of marketing that field my fashion side, and the style side that made my business coaching more unique.
4. Confident women invest in themselves.
As a female entrepreneur in a “guy’s world” online back when I started FocusOnStyle.com in 1999, let’s just say that being taken seriously wasn’t a given. Most of what I learned was on the job on an as needed basis, until I needed more. I never had a tech background but I do have a business degree in Marketing and that education give me the chutzpah to actually build a website and a brand. Through the years, I’ve invested umpteen high level business development programs, masterminds, coaches and consultants to level up my knowledge to pass on to my clients and community. If you’re too afraid to invest in yourself, who will invest in you?
5. Confident women believe in themselves.
Even when friends or your partner thinks your idea is totally coo-coo, having the strength to believe in yourself and your abilities is that drive that will set you above the masses.
6. Confident women aren’t talkers, they’re doers.
Once you understand that no one cares about your dreams and goals as much as you do and are willing to take the action that most people are afraid to every do, you will rise to your next level, the level after that, and the level above your wildest dreams.
7. Confident women are unstoppable.
My mother lived by the “never say die” motto and I’m my mother’s daughter. A confident women doesn’t meander away from her dreams and never lets people take her down. Even in the shakiest moments a confident woman can stand up, shake herself off, and get back to being an unstoppable force to be reckoned with.
8. Confident women know that perfection is make-believe... and actually holds them back.
You’ve seen those stage branding photos and cultivated images that represent nothing about the real world. I often wondered why someone who spend a fortune to create a plastic persona when real photos are actually more magnetic to your ideal audience. I asked Gary Vaynerchuk about those shoots, and he said, ““It’s one big game of insecurity. People are not willing to be themselves.” How’s that for speaking the truth?!
9. Confident are not afraid to get out there.
Remember, how I said I was happy to be behind the scenes? Once I took imperfect action to be the face of my brand, particularly on video, everything shifted!!!
Big corporations are trying to humanize themselves, yet sole proprietors and small business entrepreneurs are trying to look big and generic. Stop hiding and get out there!
10. Confident women encourage healthy competition.
Far too many times have I witnessed women who were what I call the “bless your heart backstabbers.” Being afraid of another women’s success, achievement or right to be own a space only stems from insecurity. There is one single asset that you have that makes you un-copyable and that is why…
11. Confident women know their secret sauce to stranding out and rising above a crowded market is authenticity.
The more you show up as aligned with who you are the more you will attract your most aligned and most profitable audience.
12. Confident women know they are their own best asset.
That’s right, if you lost everything today (and let’s hope not), the one asset you can never lose is you.
